DW has that 'special glow' about her....

She had to have some 'Nuclear Medicine' procedures done today (to try to resolve the leg infection problem) and was injected with some radioactive dyes and had a whole body bone scan.

I asked the technician if she's gonna glow tonight in bed and keep me awake. He assured me that the the half life of most of the stuff is only 6 hours. Bummer!

What? You thought the glow was going to be something else?

being a technologist in nuc med is what i do. The med is Tc 99 and its half life is 6 hrs. so in 60 hrs. it will be gone. it is not a dye at all. . i don't like the word dye because people can have reactions from dye, but not our meds so i call it a tracers or a tag. to much information i know but i can't help myself. Hope the glow does not keep you awake tonight. HAHA Hope your wife feels better soon.

I'd buy one of those ultraviolet lamps at a "head shop" and see if she lights up in the dark ........

I had the same thing done a couple of years ago. Don't worry she won't be glowing long......not from that anyway!!!

You're right, they didn't call it a dye. They did draw some blood, took the white blood cells out, and attached tags to those too, in addition to the small syringe of solution they put in.

She's complaining that her knees hurt now. I think she's just falling apart.

We design and build the gamma cameras used in Nuclear Medicine procedures where I work. When my dad had a NM study done a couple years ago, I brought home a geiger counter to show the kids how grampa was now "Radioactive Man".

Seriously, the gamma radiation that they use in NM imaging is much lower in energy than x-rays, so Gael's exposure to radiation from this study is much less than if she had had a series of x-rays.
