DVD player?

Hi, we are taking a cruise this September & our 2 1/2 year old loves to watch DVDs. Are there DVD players in the room? How about movie rentals? Thanks

There are several different TV channels that cater to the kids. 1 shows classic cartoons on loop much like at WDW. 1 has classic movies such as Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, etc 24 hrs/day. 1 shows newer movies such as Toy Story, Finding Nemo, etc. And I believe they also get the Disney Channel. You should be able to find something at any time for your child to watch!

The Disney movie channels were a big help, but one thing we didn't realize is that the movies are the same for the whole cruise; they just change the times of the movie showings. So, for example, the "classic" Disney movie channel would show, say, Cinderella at 8pm on one day and 2pm another day. There were about 12 movies in constant rotation on each channel. So after about day five, my kiddies got tired of those, and we brought our portable DVD player along and watched those. Just something to keep in mind . . .

Is it possible to order (or request) a DVD player? I have heard of individuals requesting a VHS player.

There are like 6 or 7 movies on over and over again at different times. It was Over the Hedge and a few others when we went. I'm sure they'll have 1 or 2 popular kids movies. Plus the movie theatres too! I wouldn't lug a DVD player....we barely caught 10 minutes of a movie at night before passing out! There is just SO much to do!!

I am still trying to fiqure out how you guys are in your rooms so much. We started cruising when my DD was a toddler (preclub age) and we were not in the room for anything but to sleep. nap her, change clothes and get ready in the morning. I think the time changes on the movies so that if your kids are let's say watching the tv at the same time each day as before bed, the same movie was not playing the entire trip. 12 movies is 24 hours of television/movies. After feeding the mouse $8,000 you can believe me, we will not be sitting in front of a smaller than 13 inch television. The kids did catch a little tv before bed and a little while we were getting dressed for dinner, but that was our only need in the many DCL cruises we have been on.

I have not seen any way to request either one. As mentioned by Andrew DEREK UK, the suites do have DVD players and there are movies that can be borrowed from the Concierge. Unless they have recently changed the type of TVs in the other cabins, there is no hookup for a DVD or VHS player.

The TV's in the rooms are not equipped to plug the DVD players in very easily if at all.

Believe me, your kids are going to want to do other things on the ship than watch DVDs. For the little time they may need to wind down, the movies on the DCL channels are more than sufficient.

Also, during the day, DCL will show Playhouse Disney and Disney Channel shows on Deck 9 on the Arielvision screen.

Do you have a laptop computer? You could watch DVD's on them (as well as back up your digital photos and access the internet).

We brought a small portable DVD player with a built-in screen, and as an earlier post pointed out, you really can't hook up any DVD player to the TV without great difficulty and additional hardward (according to DH, the uber-geek). DS is 5 and doesn't nap anymore, but we tried to offset the overstimulation and late nights with quiet time in the room each afternoon, usually before dinner, while mommy was getting all dolled up. We found the DVD player a big help. I have read in some trip reports that DCL with give you a DVD player and selection of DVDs if someone in your party is sick and quarentined to the room. I imagine they have only a few on board for that specific purpose, as well as in the suites.

Thanks everyone! That's great to hear about the movies & especially the Playhouse Disney on the Arielvision screen! Our son loves Playhouse Disney We do have a laptop & may bring it too.

My dh has brought his DVD player several times - not to watch movies - although we have done that - hooked up to the TV, but mainly he wanted the on board video they show with the embarkation and debarkation info, the shopping thing etc.

He loves that sort of stuff. Never had an issue with bringing it with us. Only once were asked to unplug it while not in the room
