Anyone else join today? I was at Barnes and Noble around noon and bought the new 23 book...very nice...then we joined as charter members, and naturally, bought all 3 pins....anyone else??

I confess that my curiousity (and not wanting to miss out on something) overrode my frugality (along with prodding from both DW and DD#1), and I parted with the money. I've parted with more on whims before, but I'm trying to control myself in this economy.

There is a lot of discussion in the Podcast and News&Rumors boards though. A lot of people are upset about how it appears to be just another way to get more money from the fans, and I can see that argument.

We'll have to see how Disney services this new group.

Well, there is exclusive merchandise, first access and discounts on the expo, and likely various other benefits coming down the road. I expect D23 members will get the same early previews for things like new/rehabbed attractions, etc. as do AP and DVC members now.

Supposed to be special perks...we will see...I dont mind the cost as a charter member, esp for the pins....One thing listed, Return to Witch Mountain will have D23 special previews in select theatres.....

I have read the boards and podcasts about disney making money and all, BUT, you must admit, Disney is pretty good at giving you what you pay for and more.....

Charter memberships mean you join by the end of the year. I'm thinking of asking for a membership for our anniversary. I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money "just because" right now.

I didn't see anything about Witch Mountain previews...it opens Friday, so it would be a bit difficult to make that fly considering no one has their membership information.

There is something about a planned Up preview screening, but it sounds like it will be at one location, and I'm sure that one location is far from here (i.e. Hollywood).

Now, perhaps being able to get passes for the movie at a discount...what are they nowadays, $9 a ticket?

Actually, Charter membership basically means you were among the first members - like founding members. To be a charter member you need to join by the end of the year.

You'd retain your charter membership so long as you continue to renew each year. It doesn't often give any added benefits other than bragging rights.

We joined. We had to cancel our May trip so this was a little compensation. Got the pins too.
