As much as I really want to be a "Charter Member" of anything Disney, I really do not see the value in this.
From the
D23 website...with my own commentary in red.
What do I receive with membership?
One year subscription (four issues) to "Disney twenty-three" publication. D23's exquisite collectible magazine is filled with stunning photography, dazzling illustrations and Disney insider perspective. It's an all-access pass to discovering the magic of Disney's past, present and future!
OK, after looking at the cover of the first one, this appears to be a nice looking, "coffee-table" magazine. Will there be a lot of substantive news and information, or just a lot of pretty pictures?
Membership Card and Certificate. The membership card and personalized, suitable-for-framing charter member certificate feature many of Disney's most beloved characters as drawn by Disney Master Artist Dave Pacheco.
To me, this is about as valuable as my "Honorary Monorail Co-Pilot" card or my "Jr. Bellhop" button from the AKV. Now, if I could flash this card and get a 20% discount off of food, clothes or souvenirs, then it would be worth my money
Surprise Collectible Gift. Just for D23 members, an exclusive Charter Year collectible gift from the new Walt Disney Archives Collection.
Well this could be anything. I will have to wait and see what it is before I commit to an opinion on it. My guess is something along the line of those free lithographs you used to get when you pre-order a movie.
Exclusive Special Events and Merchandise. D23 offers its members unique special-event opportunities throughout the year, as well as access to member-exclusive, limited-edition merchandise and collectibles.
Unless the events or merchandise are free, I see no reason to spend money to get the honor and privilege of spending more money.
Discounted admission to the D23 Expo (more on the Expo below).
Yeah, um , I live about 2000 miles away...
FanFare E-Newsletters. Subscription to bi-weekly D23 FanFare e-newsletter with breaking news and special offers. (You may opt out of receiving FanFare upon receipt of each e-newsletter.)
I doubt it will have any more information than can be found here on the Dis!
I am a huge fan of Disney, but this just seems like a rip off. I could understand a one-time fee of $75, but if that is an ANNUAL fee, no thanks. It is all well-marketed, but it seems like a lot of "smoke and mirrors". When you really look at it, aren't you basically getting 4 issues of a magazine (which can be bought without the membership anyways) and the ability to buy more stuff?

OK, so you get the "collectible gift" and the membership card, but those are one-time things. Next year, $75 gets me 4 issues of a magazine, and the promise of "discounts".
