DVCers and WWTBAMPI

I made it into the hotseat once (have attended 2 times).

I screwed up at the 32,000 point question and walked away with hat and pins.

I was absolutely petrified the entire time.

Well, I DID know the answer to the Fastest Finger, and punched them in as quickly as I could, but I thought I had two of them reversed. Obviously, I didn't! Next trip, I do plan to just punch buttons fast.

The correct answer to my question was Yolanda something or other, but I had never heard of her, so I can't remember it.

The next game I played, I knew I couldn't get into the hotseat because of the 30 day rule, but I played anyway, and I was in the 2nd position after the first round of questions.

I've made it to the hot seat once. I didn't get fastest finger, but managed to rack up the most number of correct questions while playing from the audience. I forget what level I got to - whatever it is that wins you the hat, shirt, and pins - maybe 64,000? I got stumped on a soap opera question, asked the audience which didn't give me a clear answer, and, with two lifelines left, guessed wrong. I freely admit it was a stupid move on my part, but there's something about being in that hot seat that seems to shut your brain off a bit.

The thing with being in the hot seat is that it's like you're a minor celebrity for the rest of the day. I had people stopping me in the parks, offering congratulations and commiserating with me.

I don't know a secret to get in the 'Hot Seat' but, I did on my third attempt a few years ago, I went as high as 32k, and the question was 'Which phrase is a metaphor' and I blew it, and my wife teaches young kids english, so you know I am never living that down!

you must have crumbled into dust when you missed that question... :goodvibes :teeth:

I always wanted to go to WWTBAMPI, but with kids it never seemed like a good idea. But DW and I went alone between Xmas and New Year's, so I finally got to go.

And I made the hot seat! I got to the 500,000 point question, which asked who did the special effects for the original King Kong movie. Turner Classic Movies had just run a "making of" show about the original, but unfortunately I didn't watch it. I still had my phone a stranger lifeline, but I didn't figure to be able to trust the answer. So I guessed Ray Harryhausen and was eliminated.

It was a ton of fun! I wasn't too nervous until I happened to glance at one of the big monitors that ring the stage. Then I saw a 20-foot picture of my head and freaked!

Someone asked for tips: So here's a couple. For the fastest finger contest, almost always the winner is someone who just guessed. By the time you've figured out the answer, someone else has punched in. Pick a sequence, and as soon as the lights come on, enter it. You've got one chance in 24 of having the right sequence. (4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 24) (If you go to 6 shows, and do that each time, your probably of getting in becomes about 1 out of 4. Pretty good odds. (Assuming someone else isn't doing the same thing and punching in even faster than you are.)
On my one and only visit to the attraction, the fastest fingers contest was won by a 15YO girl in less than 1 second. She swore she didn't pick randomly, which is BS. Anyway, I agree: pick a sequence, and punch it in as fast as you can.

I have made it to the hot seat twice. In 2004 I missed the 500,000 point question. This past Christmas I missed the 32,000 question. Who knew that cats have 18 claws?

LOL, Credit Man! I wish that would have been my question, because I would have gotten that one!

Great to see how many of us have "been there, done that"! I was pretty sure there would be a good number of us.

We are waiting to hear on ROFR, but we'll go ahead and call ourselves DVCers because we'll keep trying until we get past it...

I have been in the hot seat 3 times, missing the 32,000 point question all three times and using all three lifelines on that question each time. Two of the three times, the audience was wrong and the one time I went against them, they were right.

I made it into the hotseat last Nov. Boy I couldnt believe how nervous I was.
I didnt get in on the fastest finger I'm to slow for it. The girl before me asked the audience and most of the audience including my husband picked the same answer I picked a different one. I wasnt even in the top 10 before the question but she took the audiences answer and it was wrong next thing I know I'm in the hot seat. I had no confidence I was so nervous I used my lifelines on things I really did know. I lost on 64,000 question. I'm going to try to get back down there in June this time I'm sure I'll be calmer

I'll add that I was lucky enough to be in the audience twice when the hot seat contestant got to the million question.
One of them won, and that was fun seeing someone actually win. Lots of confetti. Can't remember the question though.

The other time, the contestant got it wrong, but I got it right.
Million question: What President's daughter got married at Camp David:
Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, George Bush (Sr)

answer: George Bush (Sr) (Actually, I thought that was pretty easy for a million point question).

I got in the hot seat in Jan 2004 (before I was a DVCer). Anyway, DH and I were there and after the first contestant they showed the top 10 scores. I was excited for DH because he was #3. It wasn't until he told me that I realized I was #1. I missed the 250,000 point question. It was something about wind. My phone a stranger was wonderful to correctly answer my question about fishing.

The next day we went back to play just for fun. I was #1 again and had to decline (I think everyone around me thought I was chicken), but DH was #2 so he got in the hot seat. He told them why I declined and that put the pressure on him. Unfortunately, he missed the 300 point question because he just didn't think about it. He got the button that said "I was in the hot seat". He told me to add it to my collection of pins, my hat, and my shirt.

I got into the hotseat in 2004. I made it to the 32,000 point question and missed on 64,000. The question was: Who won the Emmy for Best Actor in a Comedy Series? I took the 50/50 and narrowed it down to Matt LeBlanc or Tony Shalhoub. I'd never heard of Tony, so I picked Matt. Wrong answer! Somehow, I have no desire to watch Monk now.....

we haven't been to it for the past couple of years because we have a toddler who wouldn't find it very interesting. My wife got in the hot seat a couple of years ago, but I never made it. I did get to be the "phone a complete stranger" one time.

Credit Man OMG!!!!! I knew! I was in the room with you on that question - I remember it! I clip the cats claws so absolutely know - 5 on each front and 4 on each back paw!

I have been in the HS three times - first time I got to the 250,000 question, second time only to Question #7 (had two pop culture questions in a row that killed me!) and the third time I got to 125,000.

Oddly - each time I have been in the HS - I have been alone. No family or friends with me. If it wasn't for the three hats, 25 pins, 3 lanyards and 2 shirts - they might think I was telling a tale!

In Dec, the second lady to go in the chair got out on question 11 and I had gotten everything correct on my own up to that point and ended up #1 after her. I had been #2 on the list when she was #1 to follow the first person down to the chair. Rats! I would have been flying on that one if I'd only been #1 the first time!

Way to go Diane! Well that makes 2 DVCers I have met that have made it into that hotseat, Diane and WebMasterDoc. Maybe some of their smarts rubbed into my pores :confused3 Probably not, but Im gonna be there in a couple days so Im gonna try it again. :thumbsup2

My DH and I both made it to the hot seat on one trip a few years ago - on two different days. He is by far a better trivia buff, so I was surprised to make it before he did. Neither of us did very well - it's hard to think under the lights.

The answer I missed was something about a wooden pallet, and his was about Jet Blue (an airline, NOT a dishwasher additive).
We've been back since and made the top ten, but never the hot seat again.

The closest I got was number 3 on the high score board. That was exciting!

Just back from BWV, so I'm joining this thread a bit late. My daughter alerted me since she knew I'd want to post.

I've been in the hot seat three times (and at the top of the list at the end of play a number of other times). Each time was the result of being at the top of the fastest finger list when the first contestant missed a question. First time in the hot seat, I answered the first 10 questions without using a lifeline. We ran out of time, so I had to wait between games and resume after what seemed like a really, really long break (I don't think they interrupt a contestant mid-game any longer). After the break, I answered the 64,000 and 125,000 point questions correctly, using my fifty-fifty lifeline on the 125,000. Then I used my final two lifelines on the 250,000 point question, but still got it wrong. I decided that the audience is pretty unreliable on the high point value questions and resolved to use better lifeline management "next time".

The second time, the first contestant at the first game of the day reached the 32,000 point question and missed. I used my poll the audience lifeline on the 16,000 point question even though I was pretty certain of the answer, just so I wouldn't be tempted later. The fifty-fifty was used on the 64,000 point question and my complete stranger was really helpful on the 125,000 point question. I knew the answer to the 250,000 point question and proceeded to guess my way through the 500,000 and 1,000,000 point questions to win the cruise. This was October of 2003 and we enjoyed the cruise in October 2004.

Our next trip after the October 2003 win was January, 2004. I again made it to the HS and managed to reach the 125,000 point question before going out. I always claim my heart wasn't really in it this time since I was ineligible for the grand prize for a full year after winning the cruise, but the fact is I didn't really have a clue as to the answer and was already out of lifelines. Although you can be in the HS again after 30 days, you cannot win the cruise for a year. I spent the rest of the day trading away the pins I won this time.

At the one game I took in last week, the second contestant reached the 1,000,000 point question and missed. It was a really tough question.
