That is a very very good point. We looked at buying into DVC for years but, because we liked to stay on the monorail (and, before BLT, that wasn't possible with DVC) we bided our time and waited. Once BLT was announced, I knew that there was a good reason we had waited and we bought in. I hate that we spent all that money in accommodations when we could have been putting it toward DVC, but I'm still happy that we waited.

Since you are in the "researching" mode right now, seriously look at resale too. You are treated like any other member and, more than likely, going that route would save you money. You can also buy a smaller contract to "get your feet wet" with DVC. If you buy direct through Disney as a new member, your minimum contract will be 160 points (or 100 if they are offering that when you buy in).
