DVC X RunDisney

I’m signed up for Dopey in 2026 and I’ve got my one bedroom booked at BLT. After an epson salt soak in a studio tub at BWV a few years back, I’ve decided that the one bedroom is worth the points.

I’ve stayed at BLT, RIV, SSR, AKV, and BWV during the races, though some have been split stays or just during the expo. I’ve found the buses to run just fine. I always hear some horror story each weekend, but it never seems to be consistent; any resort can have issues. I like BLT the best since you can ride the monorail, and I like to stay at places where my family can step out and cheer. I tend to get on the first or second bus, super early in the morning, and they don’t need to wake up that early.

I started running late in life, after we purchased DVC. I’ve done six race weekends so far.

Hi all! Looking at getting my wife signed up for her first ever runDisney event! A few questions for you DVC/runners if anyone can answer?

For resort - what's the best one to stay at? It looked like last year the contemporary (and Bay Lake?) have a specific spot they can cheer on which is cool, but Poly has the monorail in walking distance. Any that are typically used by DVCers?

Do you have to sign up for the club rundisney to have a chance as a first timer to sign up? If you are only doing one race, is it even worth it?

Thanks!

Howdy! It really depends on (i) which event you have in mind for your wife, (ii) how much space you need, and (iii) where you as a spectator want to see her run!

For race morning, I definitely agree with others. Disney transportation is plentiful and shouldn't stress her out. I'm partial to Riviera, but that's because we now own there. :)

Same for space. I agree with the other poster who recommended a 1 bedroom room with a soaking tub. I know it's a touchy subject, but I definitely favor soaking after longer races and/or during a Dopey event.

Finally, where do you want to see your wife when she is running? For the half and full on marathon weekend, right by the Poly and Grand seemed to be pretty popular. And I loved - LOVED - the spectators who lined up on Main Street in Magic Kingdom both mornings for the half and full. Then there is a pretty solid cheering section along the Boardwalk and again at the end in Epcot.

Best of luck to you!

(And maybe have her try one runDisney event first before you commit to the Club RunDisney madness. Silver really is just a stepping stone to get to gold or platinum, which most importantly come with guaranteed race entry to at least 1 RunDisney race.)
