around 1993 we got roped into a Non-Disney timeshare appointment. It started with 40-50 couples in a big room and pairing off with a "sales advisor". They directed everything financial toward the $$ figures we answered. With my good ears I heard various reps quoting SEVERAL different prices to the adjacent families......We walked out and did not buy. I wanted no part of paying for 1 week (same week) for the contract.
We were guests of friends with DVC and that was all we needed to know. Started in 1996 with 150 OKW points - Added 110 HHI points when we could, then added the last 50 OKW. It is enough to really get a break and we DO not use the points for the cruises, etc. That doesn't look like a good use of the resource.
We've had friends spend $4-5,000. for their accommodations/meals for a family of 4. We never get tired of going to either OKW or HHI.
The extra benefits can evaporate, so don't let things like the stories of the 1990's free park passes blind you. I still think DVC members should get better discounts on Passes and Dining Plan (because we could eat in the apartments and they would feel that) yet I will not hold my breath!
You do feel like home when you are there.
