I don't know if this is the correct place to post this or not, so feel free to move it wherever it is most appropriate.

We are considering buying into DVC at either Boardwalk, Beach Club, or WL, and I was wondering about the DVC tours. We have read tons and tons of info and seen lots of pics, but we want to see on in "real life" before deciding when and where. So, how do the tours work? Do you call ahead and schedule one? Do they have tours at all the villas? How long does it last?

Any and all info would be awesome.

Thanks guys!! :thumbsup2

We went on a tour this past Christmas and it lasted about 2 hours. We scheduled it while we were there and they came picked us up at AKL the next day and dropped us back once its done. We are interested in buying into Ak and that was what she showed us. I think you can only buy into AK or SSR at this tmie as all others were sold. You can only get the one you mentioned from resell.

That is not true--if you insist DVC can sell you points for any resort (although you may have to wait for them to exercise ROFR to get them in inventory)--but they will definitely steer you towards the others. That being said, you are probably better off with resell for any resorts other than SSR/AKV because the cost per point may be less . .. . although if you buy through DVC and add on later there are no closing costs for add-ons. You would not get incentives from DVC for resorts other than AKV/SSR.

One more thing--if you buy through DVC you will need to buy a minimum of 160 points--whereas if you purchase through resale you can buy less.

Not true, all resorts are available to purchase directly from Disney. Tours are given at the SSR sales center but I believe BWV still has a model open that you could look at. BCV does not have a model anymore and I don't think VWL does either. You might be able to get a look at one of the units by asking someone at the front desk if you are willing to go through the trouble.

I highly recomend the tour. It is great...free breakfast (if in morning) and free fast passes for the family to make up for lost time. Also free ice cream at the end. They will pick you up from your resort and drop you off wherever you want to go. We bought after our tour and theu shipped our materials back to POP while we went to AK and rode everest with our Fast passes! It was awsome!

sure.

Do they have tours at all the villas?

no. just what they are selling (and for some random reason, there was still a BWV model just off the boardwalk that you can just wander into...) if you are interested in BWV, definitely go by the boardwalk and see if it's still there - no need to call ahead...

How long does it last?

depends on how much time you have. they can streamline things if you don't have a lot of time.

BCV wasn't an option when we took the tour this pass Christmas. And there is no point of buying from Disney if it wasn't for the incentive that they offer.

Did you ask for BCV and they said no? Or did they just try to sell you SSR/AKV?

the tours can be scheduled anywhere on property. Most of the mods/deluxes have a DVC desk and Heaven knows they are all over the parks. The tour is a good way to get a feel for DVC. We did a tour 4 years ago and didn't do one before we bought in and I wish we had done another tour.

We just purchased AKV!!!!! But we never took a tour. I would love to get all of the goodies that come with it!!!! Could we still take the tour and get them? Or maybe just get them without the tour!!! LOL

Last year, we decided to take a "streamlined" tour after learning a good bit about DVC. We just requested the tour at a kiosk in our hotel lobby, took the van ride over to SSr told the guide what we knew and asked about what we didn't (she said I should sell DVC myself lol!) We checked out the rooms, got the price list and deal under way, grab our fastpasses and went to wait for the van. We completed the tour in less than an hour! And we purchased the first business day after we returned home! Educate yourself before taking the tour so you know what you want to ask and such. Then you'll save some time. We DID NOT know at the time that we could buy anywhere but SSR and AKV but I learned this right after our sale was final. I'm happy with SSR but the guides don't tell you about the other options such as BCV or OKV. If you want to buy somewhere other than SSR or AKV, resale is probably the better option unless you plan to use Disney financing. The incentives are great though for the two DVCs they're promoting at the moment!

It's always an option, they don't tell you so but it is. However, you are correct that there is no incentive.
