My DW and I are 99% sure we are going to buy into DVC. We just don't know where. So........we are now planning a trip to WDW in September to look over the different resorts to help us decide.

My question is; Is there a tour that we can take that will show us what we need to see or do we have to just drive around on our own. If there is a tour, are there and freebees or incentives? Also, how long does the tour take?

When we were at AKL this past fall, there was a DVC setup, but we never looked at it.

Thanks

Whe you take the DVC tour, you will see models rooms for AKV and SSR. There are some model rooms also available at BWV (unless they've closed them recently) but you are on your own to get there. As for the other DVC resorts, you could ask at the front desk if there are any rooms you could view.

The tour will include an overview of the DVC program, a look at the AKV and SSR models, and time to ask quesions of your guide.

When we took the tour last year it was about 90 minutes from drop off at SSR to pick-up to be taken back to our resort.

The model rooms at the Boardwalk were open a couple of weeks ago...

If you have spent time on the boards I am sure you have heard this information before BUT I do believe it is worth revisiting. I am a firm believer in concentrating not so much on what the resort offers because they all hava some magificent points but you should spend time looking at the park you love. My wife and I love the BWV because of the back entrance into EPCOT and we can easily go back to the villa from EPCOT. If we were Magic Kingdom folks then e might look at VWL ... DTD then SSR ... AK then AKL.

We are looking at adding on when/if the Contemporary has villas as it is on the monorail and eventually we will have grandchildren.

Remember ... location, location, location.

Wife and son were in the parks last week and the BWV room is still there and open.

I think all Disney hotels have a DVC desk, plus there are a ton of them in all parks and Downtown Disney. You can go to the DVC desk and let the Guide know you want to do a tour. They will arrange to pick you up at whatever location you decide, then after the tour they will drop you off where ever you want to go. They are really, really nice! Also, after the tour (if you go to SSR for the tour, not the one on Boardwalk) you'll get free ice cream. Yum :cloud9:

Don't forget to ask about getting some fast passes for taking the tour. Sometimes they don't offer and it never hurts to ask! Sometimes they even offer gift cards.

We did that this past January. And we did both. DW and I rented points at SSR. Studio (loved it). We spent the first day examining VWL and AKL and OKW. Drove our car that day. We spent at least a couple of hours or more just wandering around at each. Sitting at the pools and having a meal, getting the vib, visiting each of the DVC desks. (got vouchers for merch discounts) If it's early enough and they are cleaning rooms you might get to take a peak. Did the DDP and ate at Narcoosees, Yachtman, Morocco and breakfast at Kona (tango toast yum). The second day (it was so cold - January 3, used our vouchers to buy jackets) We explored SSR and BWV and BCV. Went to EPCOT that day. The third day we took the offical tour. Tim was our guide. We saw the models at SSR and made our desicion to buy at OKW. More room for your points and we love the ambience. Should have done it when we took the tour in 94. But we were young and broke. Who knew?

Vouchers? Free Stuff? Do tell me more :cool1:

Do they still give the cards to get the immediate ride FP's at the parks? We were give those when we did our DVC a year ago.

We spent 1 night at BWV 2 weeks ago and the model was open there too.

Voucher was $50 in Disney Merch (two $25 gift cards I think) which we used to help buy coats-(It was so cold it surprised us!) We were also offered the free fastpass but we weren't going back to the park so we didn't take it.
I've heard of people getting even more but I think that may have to do with whether or not you finance with Disney. Also, we got the "discount" for OKW ($98 a point and no closing costs) so I think those paying the list price at SSR and AKV are getting better freebies.

When we took the DVC tour in May 2006, we got one freebie....a $50.00 Disney gift card.

We were planning on doing the DVC tour on our last day in WDW, but if there is a chance of a cool FastPass then we may go earlier.

Do you have to buy DVC right then to get the FP or the gift cards or do you just have to go on their tour?

We're going to buy DVC this Fall but we were going to buy resale, not directly from Disney.

When you get to WDW search out a DVC kiosk and let them know you want to take the tour while you're there. Ask what incentives they have (gift card, FPs, etc.) so that you can decide at what point in your trip you want to tour. They will mark you down in their tour book & ask you where you want to be picked up (they take care of getting you there in a DVC shuttle van). They'll even drop you off at your desired location.

You do not have to buy right then to get the incentive...that's your 'gift' for showing up and listening.

You don't have to necessarily tell them your particulars of when you're thinking of buying. Who knows, you might like the current promotion for purchasing through Disney and buy directly from them after all. You still get the freebie they're offering though.

Good luck....my guess is you'll be hooked! ;)

We went on the tour near the end of our stay and were given the FP's, which were good for four FP's each and we had 2 days left to our vacation. We did not buy DVC on the spot, we didn't purchase through them until we got home.
