DVC studios - fewer amenities

I bring my own tea and coffee! At home I boil the water and steep it in my tea pot, but when I'm at my Disney I run it through the coffee pot. I really try to use the micro as little as possible. I have been known to reheat a time or two!:rolleyes1

I'm with the British on this one, I bring my own electric tea kettle. I am not a coffee drinker and any hot water made out of a coffee pot tastes like coffee. I've been know to send my tea back in restaurants if it is made out of a pot that previously had coffee in it. YUCK...

I've been bringing my own tea and electric kettle for years on vacation. I just thought of it now. My dh and I do not drink coffee. Nor will we drink tea out of styrofoam cup (just tastes nasty). I'll use paper. In fact, we stayed in NYC in December and I brought our electric tea kettle and paper cups & tea bags. Thank goodness I did as they had those one cup coffee makers.

I think they should have the same amenitites for tea drinkers as coffee drinkers.

Here ya go....thanks TiggerAlli:goodvibes

I'm glad that turned out to be so useful! :thumbsup2

I did get a call on Thursday from Orlando. I can't say that it was DVC or Member Services, only that it came from the 407 area code, as they did not leave a message. Since we do not know anyone that lives in the area, or that was visiting & would have called us, I am assuming it was Disney calling. Unfortunately they have not called back. :sad1:

Because I've received no response yet, I've dashed off a 2nd round of emails.

I'll send letters out at the end of this week to Jim Lewis, Bob Iger, and another to their Environmental Initiatives arm.

I've sent some "story tip" emails off to a few environmental web sites, and a couple of press contacts. I got some responses from the environmental web sites, saying they were going to follow up with Disney. Nothing from anyone else.....not even the Sentinel.

I can't believe that we have basically had no proper responses to our emails. Bad management and downright rude.

Right, basically nothing for the majority of us. They seemed to have called a few Disers, so I was hoping there would be something in the news portion of the Members Site. Even a more "to the point" general response to everyone who sent e-mails would be appreciated by me.

Yeah, I'm really irked by the fact that it's been way more than the 5 business days and just about all of us had no response whatsoever.

IF they didn't want to spend the time calling all of us (which is my mind, after this fiasco, they should spend the time to get back on the road of top notch customer service), then they have all of the member email addresses in a database somewhere. Otherwise, we wouldn't be getting the email newsletter (whatever it's called).

You can't tell me it would be HARD to draft a statement to email blast every member out there.

They need to do something here. Ignoring us will only fan the flames in this situation.

Can someone post a poll asking who has heard back? Maybe an option for "canned automated response only", email response, phone call but I wasn't home, and phone call and talked to someone. Then we'd know how many of us actually contacted DVC, and how many have heard back.

(Apparently I'm too stupid to post a poll? I see the option but no way to put what the actual poll is?)

Thanks !

I'm going to be optimistic and assume it's because they're actually reconsidering the new policy, and don't want to send a massive mailing, only to have to send another two days later.

Was there anything in the most recent DIS unplugged podcast about this? I haven't listened yet.

I emailed Member Satisfaction late Saturday night when I found this thread. It got me so worked up that I had a hard time falling alseep! It's just wrong on so many levels! I woke up on Sunday and told my husband all about it and he shot an email off to MS also. We got the canned email response back,of course, but I am really hoping our voices will be heard and make a difference. If not, I am afraid it may sour DVC for us. For the past month we have been talking up DVC to my in-laws so they went ahead and ordered the informational DVD. They were impressed with what they saw and are seriously considering buying. When I tell my father-in-law about this change I KNOW he will be very turned off to the idea of buying.

Do you..... wish you knew sooner? :rotfl:

I would be sure to let DVC know that you can't be a spokesperson for them and promote a quality product if they are going to little by little undermine that quality product.

I suppose I will be totally stunned if the situation remains as it's been described up to this point. I mentioned in at least one letter the extent to which I am willing to go.

Almost at 1,000 posts.

I'll be sending out my letter this week. I also do not think this is right.

I feel sorry for folks with infants that will not have anything to wash out their bottles.

I don't think DVC thought this through.

Just back from a standard studio (3111-fireworks view from balcony:thumbsup2 !!!)at BWV:goodvibes . Great stay, I adored the resort and the room, but this is one thing that bothered me. No glassware. I bought a bottle of wine and drank from my refillable mug rather than the styrofoam cups. It just didn't seem right. Even the moderate resorts get glasses and ceramic mugs, I think they could allow some glassware for a studio. But hey, if thats all I have to complain about, I think I did well. Next time I'll bring my own wrapped up in my luggage.
Just wondering....did you call and ask for any glasses?
Thanks

Thanks for emailing out of the "disney network"......they have to be really irked if the press start calling them:thumbsup2

I hope that the email I do get.....VERY SOON...will be to say the mugs
are back....plates and such would be nice too....GEEZ!

I've finally drafted my letter and will be sending it off in a few minutes. I haven't sent it earlier because I thought that spreading out the complaints would help to keep the issue on the minds of whoever it is that makes such stupid decisisons.

This is a copy of what I am sending....

Dear DVC Satisfaction Team:

I am writing about a recent, unannounced change to DVC studio units whereby the ceramic mugs and drinking glasses have been replaced with Styrofoam and plastic. Additionally, it is my understanding that the dish detergent previously provided in each unit has also been removed.

I am truly at a loss to understand how anyone could perceive these changes to be considered beneficial to the DVC membership at large. Personally, I see this change as a degradation of my DVC ownership. DVC units are marketed as “deluxe” accommodations. There is nothing deluxe about Styrofoam! If I had wanted to stay at the Motel 6 during my visits to WDW, I would not have spent thousands of dollars to buy DVC points.

Additionally, replacing reusable dishware with disposables is cannot be cost effective. This member would like to know if these costs will be passed onto the general membership in the form of higher dues. If so, I would like to be on record as stating this cost is not acceptable.

Most importantly however, replacing the ceramic mugs and glassware with plastic and Styrofoam is definitely not environmentally friendly move. As a self-proclaimed “green” corporation, I would think that The Disney Company and its subsidiaries would be aware that reducing the amount of Styrofoam we use is a major goal of every environmental agency and group. In fact, one of Disney’s own websites, http://corporate.disney.go.com/environmentality/50_actions.html, lists limiting the use of Styrofoam as one way we can help the environment!

If this change was brought about due to the lack of dishwashers in studio units as has been widely reported, rest assured that the sinks in each studio, along with dish detergent provide a perfectly acceptable and sanitary alternative for washing the mugs and glasses that have been replaced. Although dishwashers have become commonplace in American homes, there are still quite a few of us who do not have them and have not been sickened by hand washing our dishware. I am concerned however, about the leaching of chemicals from my new, deluxe polystyrene cup as I microwave my tea each morning, having an adverse affect on my health.

In the years since my husband and I have purchased our DVC interest, there have been changes that we have felt were not to our benefit (changes to Vacation Magic, increase in trade out fees), however this change directly affects the quality of our stays in our “home away from home.” We are not in the habit of using Styrofoam cups for coffee and tea at home and certainly are not looking forward to using them at our “home away from home.” You could say that this is the change that “broke the camel’s back.” While we are not yet considering selling our points, we are definitely not going to be adding-on as we had planned.

I am hoping that this poorly thought out decision will be changed in the immediate future.

Sincerely,
Kathleen O’Donnell (member #.....)

On our last stay (in a GV) we had a "full" box of kleenex. But, it had only 2 (different coloured) kleenex's in it. I'd prefer a new purse pack to that.

At the hospital were I use to work the last few kleenex in the box were a different color. If housekeeping saw that color they were suppose to leave a new box.

I have not gotten anything but the canned response.
