DVC studios - fewer amenities

I'm drinking herbal tea right now, and I also make it using the microwave and one of my favorite mugs.

My next stay is BCV, in a studio, and as much as I had been anticipating this trip for the Flower and Garden show, and meeting some of my fellow Disboarders while I'm there, I now am apprehensive. This is something I never dreamed would happen, dreading a trip! I'll bring a mug, but I can't see myself bringing a glass or even the liquid soap. I've had liquid accidents happen on a trip before.

I've stayed in a VB studio and when I noticed that there wasn't a mug, I called and got one. I didn't realize the ommission was on purpose, (Wasn't it Spicey's guide who said this began in VB?) so I wasn't as apprehensive as I am now.

For my fellow tea drinkers, I'm at a loss as to how we're supposed to drink our tea now. In the past, I always put a ceramic mug with water in the microwave for 2 minutes, then removed it and added my tea bag. Was that a real tacky way? And more importantly, how will I get my tea now if they go to styrofoam? Or do I now have to bring a tea maker as well?

i don't think it's tacky at all! this is how i do it only i put the tea bag in the water in the mug and THEN microwave it for 2 minutes. i think i'll play a trick on them and bring my fiestaware cups (exactly like disney uses) and leave it on the counter and see how long it stays there, lol. ;)

Would you drink tea from a paper cup though? My DH is English and he will not drink his tea from a disposable cup.

Well I'm very British when it comes to tea, and water heated in the microwave will just not do either - so definitely NO paper cup :sad2:

Oh I've had more than one shampoo incident! Now I put anything and everything that might leak into ziplocks!:thumbsup2 (And I bring a couple of spare bags for the ride home "just in case"!)

Am I the only one going to the front desk on my next visit and demanding my glassware?

(Trust me I will be there and then since they didn't leave me dish cleaing supplies I may jsut do it DAILY!!!!!)
I will be asking for them upon checkin....with a follow up call in 15 min to see if they are on their way.
I agree with Chuck. I appreciate the "perks" but do not get upset if they come and go because I was aware of that situation when I purchased.

I was not aware that DVC management was going to make decisions such as this with the cups, that to me cheapens my purchase.

I would compare this to the DVC decision to not offer throw pillows for the couches.

At this time DVC is not saying why this happen, I was told that due to the large response of upset members they are "discussing" the situation. Which to me, means they realize they messed up and now are trying to do PR on the situation.

Personally I think DVC would be wise to stop mailing useless fluff such as the Disney Files magazine and periodically at least twice a year, do an online guest survey. Then they could truly say they were listening to member feedback. In that survey they should include any changes made to DVC services and DVC resorts.
A survey twice a year is great.....maybe they could send the Disney Files
once a year....and eliminate all the "propoganda".;)
DH makes it exactly that way -- pours some bottled water into a mug, heats it in the microwave for a couple of minutes and then adds the tea bag. It won't be possible to do that with Styrofoam (the water gets too hot plus the health risks with Styrofoam increase when you use them for hot liquids). Even going with paper cups instead of Styrofoam would be a problem because DH heats the water to the point where a cup without a handle is too hot to hold. They would need to provide some insulating sleeves to put around the cups like they do at places like Dunkin Donuts or people are going to burn their hands on these disposable cups. Another problem is that I find disposable cups are more prone to being knocked over. I would much rather have a nice sturdy coffee mug for my hot drinks than a tippy disposable cup.
A nice "sturdy" mug is the only respectable way to drink the morning coffee or tea..IMO....the disposable's is for taking a beverage "TO GO".
There was at least one report here of a poster being told that they were 'not permitted' to have mugs and/or glassware in a studio

I don't think they will continue this.....it is so beyond "magical" it's not
even funny:sad2:

Do you not stay in studios? Or do you bring an appliance? At any rate, I really hope DVC changes it's mind.

Now, when it added the DVD player to the studios and villas, THAT was a change I agreed with!!

I bring along a small electric kettle when I am in the studios :) I don't think you would be too surprised at the number of us Brits who travel with our own supplies of tea bags too ;)

Agree totally about the DVD player.

The only way I would ever get my DH to go "camping" would be in an RV with a kitchen and real mugs.

:goodvibes I'm teasing 'cuz that's what the whole styrofoam cup thing reminds me of!! It does not remind me of a stay in a "deluxe" resort! :rotfl2: It reads "roughing it" all over the place!!

Next they will probably tell you that we're limited to one roll of TP per stay or something. Or they'll put those little purse size packs of tissues in the bathroom rather than a whole box! Or they'll put lockboxes on the A/C controls!:rotfl2: OH!! They could put sensors on the lights so if they don't detect any movement in 10 min. they'll turn out on their own! I'm sure next they'll wire the frig. doors to the front desk so everytime we open it we get charged on our KTTW cards!

On our last stay (in a GV) we had a "full" box of kleenex. But, it had only 2 (different coloured) kleenex's in it. I'd prefer a new purse pack to that.

I doubt that lockboxes on the A/C would save them money since I hear about more people trying to warm the place up than cool it down.

I stayed in a hotel that had sensors on the lights--it was brutal since they turned them off if you didn't move, but, you had to go to the wall switch to turn them back on. So I had to keep reaching out and waving my arms around. Argh! DVC'd better not follow suit on that one. (Although, I probably wouldn't mind it as long as the lights turned back on when you moved and/or had an override available.)

OK....please don't even joke about lockboxes on A/C:scared1:
That would completely send me over the edge.

Yes.....I just realized....being able to cool my room to "cold" when I am
sleeping is my 1st Priority.

I'm not crazy! :rotfl: :lmao: Hallelujah!

Just returned from WDW last night. Parents were in an AKV studio and mentioned this to me. I kept muttering, "What! I'm sure studios always had glasses and mugs". Obviously not enough sleep on the trip down. ;)

Well, I'll be writing. I always brought some cutlery and plates from home when staying in a studio. Don't like plastic cutlery. Not interested in packing more items or not having dish soap.

And tea in a glass mug is a want getting very close to a must for this Canadian.

Cannot do without my cup of tea in the morning and before bed. We also travel with our small travel kettle (the water must be boiling) and tea bags.

Paper or styrofoam cups are a definite no no

Reading that, did anyone else get paranoid about the mug they may bring from home or buy? I'm so afraid of mousekeeping coming in and removing it, that I'm going to hide my mug on T&T day. I can see it now "Contraband report from Room ***. The guest has a ceramic mug-must remove immediately."

Yes, we bought a travel kettle in the US quite a few years ago and it makes the journey with us each time!! I also take tea bags I confess!!

I sent my email several days ago and like all of us I too am waiting for a true response. I was hopping that the situation would be corrected by Easter. We will be arriving for a studio stay on Easter Sunday at SSR with DS5 and 1. I need that dish soap for the bottles alone, not to mention for the sippy cups and hopefully the ceramic mugs and glass glasses. I for one will ask the CM checking me in if the mugs, glasses, dish soap, and tea towel are back in the studios and if not I will be asking for them to be placed in there for my stay! Hoping that DVC sees their error.

No Mugs For You!

:lmao: :rotfl2: LOVE IT!! It could be a new DVC logo!

Just emailed DVC Customer Satisfaction and printed out a letter to Mr. Lewis which I will mail tomorrow. I asked him to explain how styrofoam will enhance my deluxe vacation resort stay. :lmao: :rotfl2: I also told him I was sending a letter to the FL Dept. of Environmental Protection. I didn't want him to think he was special enough to be the lone recipient of my complaint.:goodvibes All we can do now is hope 'eh?!
