DVC studios - fewer amenities

They are trying to gather all the glasses and mugs back up and next week we will get an email that says "they have been returned to the unit"......or Jim Lewis is asking "when did we do this and why wasn't I told?"

I think you have that wrong.....they will say "but there have always been glasses and mugs! they were never taken out of the studios!"

They were never taking them "away", but rather they just took them all out to give them a really good cleaning! (but no excuse for the soap)

But I will drive to get soft TP .. Unlike some I am not scared to go out the peskey west gate to PUBLICs..

I feel that is is not a waste of time. I normally do My publics run the day we arrive . Which is normally a pool Day .

So say what you will I am still Not against this change ..

I am against the losing of other perks but we all bought a VACATION INTEREST not perks or cups bowls or even light bulbs..

While I'm not really interested in your toilet paper preferences, I find your post condescending. :confused3 Not everyone feels the need to go grocery shopping on vacation, and that's their choice. It has nothing do to with being scared to go to Publix. I personally think Publix is a great store, and we often do rent a car to stock up our fridge. I don't use disposables if I can help it, and I certainly don't intend to start while staying in my DELUXE VACATION INTEREST.

I don't know about you, but the VACATION INTEREST I bought into inluded the lightbulbs and dishes. Perks have never been guaranteed and your guide should have informed you of that. Ours did many times. Dishes and lightbulbs are just common sense, and it's ridiculous to suggest that they weren't included in the purchase of our VACATION INTEREST.

I don't use styrofoam in my home and, as of April 4, I will not legally be able to buy any. I shop in Calabasas CA., and the styrofoam ban goes into effect on that date. No stores, hotels, or restaurants can use, or sell styrofoam.

Thanks. Do you think Disney bought it cheap from those places? Maybe that's why we are getting it in our "homes".

I think this was done because they don't take the glasses somewhere and wash them between visitors. I wonder if they wash them in the rooms. Someone did mention that there were no commercial dishwashers at DVC resorts (those attached to a regular hotel might have some access, and AKV is currently mixed use).

DVC was probably imagining TV sneaking cameras into the studio units to see how well the glasses got washed. No more glasses, no more housekeepers washing the glasses.

To be fair, there have been plenty of condescending remarks made on both ends of the argument. Which is too bad, as there, IMHO, some interesting arguments that can be made on either side, if the condescension, dramatics and irrationality is lost.

This is just a prime example that DVC does not understand at all how members use these studios. Mousekeeping never replenishes coffee, tea, sugar and paper products on trash and towel day so DVC just assumes we don't use them. Little do they know we all bring them from home because we know they're not going to be replenished. They have no clue how many members have a quick breakfast or sandwich in the studios. Maybe this campaign will wake them up to this fact.

You can say that again!

We knew going into this that we needed to bring our own coffee, because they don't replace it. My husband is kind of a coffee snob and doesn't like what they have to offer anyway, but geez! Now we are going to have to supply the supplies for our kitchenette! I'm not going to use all those disposables, because it is bad for the environment, so I guess I will either bring cups or buy some from the market when we get there. Hey! maybe Garden Grocer can deliver those items too!

Ohhh....I get to quote the poll now! The new one! Sweet, oh here goes.....so far....out of 144 people over 53% are very upset, to the point of wanting to complain and another 21% disaprove, but will probably stay quiet. (as of about 4:59 pm today)

This can be considered a collective sample....which includes different age ranges, membership locations and lengths of membership. Something that Disney would want to do in any test case, to determine membership feelings without having to send a letter to EVERY member. With a 74% negative response, I think that Disney would say this could warrant a change (at least in the DVC units, where the policy change occured and the sample taken from).

OK, second post on this thread. Let me see if I can be a little more level headed. Most people disapprove, some don't care, and a few think it's good. I don't plan to use studios, but I may in the future when the kids fly the nest. It has no bearing as it is still DVC deluxe units. I believe they should have full service for 4. There is a sink and soap. They don't have full service for 4, OK fine, disposible plates and bowls; glass and ceramic mugs. We've all read "my stay was crap threads" due to housekeeping or problems with the rooms. There will always be problems with rooms; including cleaning, things missing, and things broken. I do, however, expect clean linens, clean bathroom, clean floor, clean bedroom, clean fridge, etc... When you check in (or walk in) you should feel pleased to be here. You should not need to scan or "go over" the room to see if it is ready. First appearance is a lasting appearance. If something is not right, call the front desk. I've had issues in the past. The best resolution was face to face at the desk. You call, nothing. You call again, nothing. You call again and say 'I'm on my way'
and then you get 'you don't have to come down', we'll fix it. If you are not face to face I don't get results. If that person can't handle it, ask for a supervisor. Most complaints are minor and can be resolved on the spot.

This change is across the board. The higher ups made it and want to call it policy. This is not an issue, but a policy. If there is a problem washing glasses and mugs, fix it! Don't take them out of studios. If you want sterile disposible cups, fine, add them. But please give enough cups for a families vacation. It is a service issue.

The only way DVC or Disney knows is by feedback. Good or Bad, let them know.

Here are a couple thing that worrie me "the more stringent commercial renting rules (or at least defined ones),"

Have been defined for a while just never enforced. I have looked at my guide books from previos yeasr none stated that coffee cup(mug) and glassware were in a a studio.

I think It is not right for Disney to do this..

I also agree thqat is will not effect the selling point of DVC.

As the buying of a vacation interest is not worring about CUPs and glasses.

I am wondering what the replacement rules are going to be.

As if your there for a week you may need more the 4 each.

Is it going to be like mousekeeping a charge for daily or is it going to be like getting more coffee..

I fail to see that over 100000 members are going to pick up and sell because of this.

Maybe members are not going to pick up and sell (this time!) Just wait until they take something else away! You are not getting the bigger picture here! Since you have made it quite clear that this decision does not affect you, because you don't stay in studios and you don't care about the affect that it has on the environment. But as you can see by all the posts here, that it does affect many members!

Maybe we aren't going to sell ours right now, but it might make people reconsider an add on! As we all know that current members are the best repeat customers for Disney and DVC!

How would Disney know if the other 165000 members are upset. They did not inform the membership and I suspect many will be surprised when the arrive in their villas.

Denise in MI

In addition to the 250 +/- DIS members who have responded to this thread, there are the guests who are complaining either to the Front Desk and/or Mousekeeping when they find only paper, plastic and styrofoam in their studios. Then there are the folks who respond to the on-line surveys sent to you after check-out. I have a feeling that the complaints coming in to Mousekeeping and to the Front Desk will carry a lot of weight. Member services can send out a canned response to our e-mails, but cast members at the resorts are having to deal directly with unhappy and irrate guests. This takes up a lot of time which creates a backlog at the Front Desk and in servicing rooms-leading to more complaints. Add to that all the trips Mousekeeping is making to replenish supples and the amount of CM time spent on this begins to add up. Put all this together and I bet this paper, plastic, styrofoam issue is being rethought already.

I just firedmy own letter off to the Customer Satisfaction folks. I doubt all the complaining we are doing will change what is done. It just bothers me that these changes were made without member knowledge. I am just curious as to what they will do with the old glassware/mugs. Not that I really care, but it is the members' money that purchased those.[/quote

I am thinking they will just be placed in a !bdr and 2 bdr and grand villas.

I think that you think they took it totaly away they did not they are still in use just not in a studio. Which makes no sense at all! The logic of it being more sanitary in a studio as opposed to larger units is absurd!

As for the letters I do not think anything will change . Maybe -Maybe not!? We shall see!

There was a major campainabout the ddp and the automatic 18% tip party size changing .

Nothing got changed.. Did everyone send letters? I didn't, because I have never used it. It is not really a DVC thing.

I think the effect of this do affect many but I do not think most will care. Obviously that is not the case. 50+ pages! Obviously, more people drink from the glasses than do the DDP!

If there is 500000 members and only 15000 complane i would not expect disney to change a thing.

Post a poll see if you even break 1000 members?? Not a bad idea!

Then get those 1000 members to have one voice (lol that would never happen)

Just a thought

If it is something you care about, please write to DVC!

I don't think so--the ones I've seen pictures are are blue foam and have the Disney logo on them . . . . so I think they're "special-made" just for us! (Well and everyone in the parks where they use them)

But they could be from Disneyland's inventory, if they had ordered them in bulk, since CA will be restricting their use.

Sort of like "We've got 50K foam cups we can't use at Disneyland, let's send them to Florida, they'll find a use for them."

To me this sounds like Disney’s misguided attempt to fix the number dissatisfier: Mousekeeping

They must get countless complaints about the shoddy work by mousekeeping and the late checkin time for DVC. Timeshares with kitchen facilities just take longer to clean.

So…. some idiot at DVC came up with the idea of eliminating mugs. It should speed up the room turn over, right? And, hey, the more we can discourage eating and drinking in the room the faster the clean up. Brilliant! Give that man a raise!

If you’re only looking out how to speed up and streamline the room turnover process this is a good thing. However, DVC neglected to consider the members use patterns, the environment, branding, customer loyalty... Very short sighted.

I hate that I will now have to pack mugs and dishwasher detergent on top of sugar and a plate. Such a small thing, but it hit a nerve with me.

Don't forget the coffee!
