DVC said NO Waitlist

marathonmommy, it appears you should contact byoung by PM (since s/he just purchased BWV points last month), get the name of his/her guide, contact that guide, and see if you can arrange for the purchase of your "sold out" points that way.

That's what I'd do.

Doc, I don't know what you do for a living, but you are excellent at what we in my company refer to as positive communication thru climbing the ladder. The higher you go on the ladder, the more factual your information becomes. You do a great job of understanding the actual posts (and information contained) and not trying to read into them something that is not there.

Keep up the good work. I always enjoy your responses.

Just to be clear--I never said, nor claimed that there was a rule or policy against a new member purchasing a sold out resort from Disney. Just that there was no waiting list for such purpose. We can argue about the meaning of a waitlist, but nothing in this thread actually provides evidence that DVD is maintaining a waitlist, though some guides may be doing so (in which case, they make the rules for being on it).

I don't care what you choose to call it, if someone takes my name with the intent of eventually getting what I requested, I would call it a WAITLIST. If they tell me nothing can be done, then there is no list at all. Perhaps it's just semantics, but non-members can certainly purchase all DVC resorts directly thru DVC. Just ask your guide for assistance- regardless what you choose to call the process. Just tell them what you want and to let you know when it becomes available (I'd still call that a waitlist).

Yeah, a waitlist, right. Everytime someone calls to add on points they add there name on the list......... :rotfl: . It doesn't work that way. Anyone looking to add points through Disney would be waiting years because the list would be so long. People, if you want to add on through Disney keep on your guide with phone calls and reminders. If you are waiting for your name to come to the top of some waitlist, good luck.

As noted in my post above, I bought BWV as a new member in April after being on what I considered a "waitlist" for about 10 days. The only time I actually spoke to my guide was on the day we were put on the "waitlist." He took all the information that later found its way into our closing documents during that phone call. He took my credit card and told me that it would be charged with our deposit when the "waitlist" came thru. He left me a message the following week that my "watilist" had come thru, with the UY, # of points and my membership number. Documents arrived about a week later.

Such a process seemed far too formalized to just be the work of a very diligent guide helping out a new customer.

Of course, as with anything at WDW, policies may have changed since April and there may now be an official policy that prohibtis selling sold-out resorts to new members.

I continue to believe that buying at BWV directly from DVC was the best choice for our circumstances. If the OP beleives that buying a sold-out resort thru DVC is also the best choice for them (and it is not for everyone), I would advise them to be persistent with their existing or a new guide.

Good luck -- Suzanne

First, no reason to be belligerent. As stated, I was simply curious to hear the source of your info since it clearly differs from other reports in this very thread.

Interestingly enough in this rant you did NOTHING to actually justify your post. Where does this info actually come from? A Guide? Jim Lewis? Michael Eisner?

Really? This post seems to offer conflicting information:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=618642

In that post I'm seeing multiple, corroborating reports of an official waiting list being put into effect back in August 2004.

Actually it has more to do with the number of points desired and the specific Use Year. Current members wishing to add-on can only buy points in their current Use Year. The immediacy with which one member gets his/her points over another has to do with the number requested and UY and, indirectly, the number of other members who may be ahead of each member on a waiting list.

Wasn't trying to be belligerent. I thought I stated that a friend of mine is a DVC Guide. Aslo I don't care what that other post says. I'll take a friends word over that post any day. Waitlist doesn't exist. If you want to add on go through resale or bug your guide until you get what you want. Don't hold your breathe waiting for your name to surface to the top of some waitlist.

I disagree with the characterization that the guide is mistaken or misleading on both accounts. We have had a number of posts, based on high quality sources, that as a matter of policy these waitlists do not exist for nonmembers (and in fact many have suggested that waitlists no longer exist for members outside of a guides own efforts to check on availability). If there is no centrally maintained list with rules as to how to proceed through it, then it is not a waitlist. You may, however, find a guide that is willing to do a little more legwork and keep someone in mind if something comes up. That is not a waitlist. All I am arguing is that the guide may not have been either misleading or dishonest. Can you get sold out resorts direct? If you find the right guide who is willing to go the extra mile and bends some policies, it appears to be, yes (and understand that I am not criticizing it--that's great customer service, the type that I have always gotten from our guide). I won't even begin to defend the other part--obviously, resales remain a plausible way of buying into any resort at this time.

Couldn't agree more and this is exactly what I tried to convey in my other post. Webmaster Doc and others have disputed it but oh well, let them believe what they want. I know how the system works and if I choose to add on I'll be able to do it without being on some waitlist. Thanks for the post.

Suzanne,

Your post confirms what we have read many times in the past. The guide takes your name and then checks the points availability regularly and charges your credit card immediately when they find the points. First come, first served--first guide to grab the points gets them. The waitlist used to work the following way: you put your name on the waitlist with your guide for an add on. When the points became available, the first person on the list was able to take as many points as they wanted up to the amount available. However, when your name came up, the guide gave you a call and you could either accept, take the points, or take a different number of points than you originally asked for. The waitlist was centrally maintained and when your name came up your guide was notifed and then they called you. Not the way it seems to work anymore (or perhaps it did change again as some posters have reported).

Uhh. I called my guide a few months ago and wanted to do an add on. I gave her the UY that I wanted and she said she would put me on a list and call me as soon as one came available.

About a week later she called and said they had the point available and that I could buy them (I did).

Not sure if she keeps a list or if DVC keeps one but someone put me on some kind of list to get my points. :confused3

Anyway, I have no doubt if someone ones points somewhere, they can get them one way or the other.

The issue is that Disney has a habit of saying one thing and doing another. They did say no wait list but I was thinking they retracted that somewhat. But individual guides can and have kept their own lists.
