DVC Resort bashing

This subject came up as an off topic post in another thread which might make an interesting poll. In your opinion, which DVC resort is the victim of more unfair resort "criticism", "negative comments" or "resort bashing" (given many comments are good natured ribbing, or poking fun)?

I first off have to say I have only been on this site for a few weeks, so My opinion is not that of a seasoned member.

But, I would like to say that we purchased at BCV and we were happy with our purchase. Then, I read about the BUGS, the DIRT, no Water pressure, rude CM's and I though OH MY, WHAT HAVE WE DONE????

I think all resorts get some bashing (as well as praise), but everyone is probably a bit more sensitive when it is their own home resort. I know I was.

Well-I don't call my feelings about the pool at OKW "bashing"--especially since I never use it and always pool hop.
But for purposes of the poll, I will assume it is "unfair criticisim"
because I know MANY others like the pool..

Its hard to tell in writing when someone is poking fun and when they are bashing. Its particularly hard to tell when you are new here and you don't understand that some particular posters have a schtick about a certain resorts.

I think that we probably get a lot more people coming through here lurking - trying to decide if DVC is for them and trying to decide if they should go resale or buy through Disney and which resort. They probably don't post much. We don't do them any favors by resort bashing - even the poking fun.

I think we leave them with the impression that home resort matters MUCH more than it usually does (and it does matter, but you won't be "stuck" at your home resort for the next 39 years). That OKW is nearly like staying off site. That no one in their right mind enjoys VWL - its so out of the way and dark! That every stay at BCV is ridden with bugs and bad service and there are no good views. And that the BWV hallways are only slightly shorter than the walk to through Epcot. And that this board is filled with petty people.

I listed BWV because even though it has the same size rooms as VWL, BCV and SSR it seems to take the heat as "representing" all the "small roomed" resorts!

By the way, I don't view posts that list shortcomings a person found at a resort on a particular trip as "bashing". So posts about bugs, unclean rooms, broken fixtures, etc really are just relaying a situation a person found during their stay.

Disparaging comments about size of rooms, location, theming, pool quality, etc.....now those are bashing.

well I said OKW because so many people bash it as being "SO FAR AWAY" from everything. and many of them sound like they have not stayed there and are basing it only on "??" not sure what they base it on.

I stayed there on rented points and ended up joining we loved it so much.

Granny said it very well.
I voted 'none-all equal'. I have seen many, many negative comments about various DVC resorts, but I would classify very few of them as "bashing".

I suspect most get bashed here, so I picked all equally. That being said, I do think I hear LESS bashing at VWL than others. I always defend my beloved OKW because I feel a lot of people bash it who have never been there.

I think each one of the DVC resorts have their own unique characteristics and their own advantages and disadvantages. Each DVC owner has their own likes and dis-likes. There is no One True Resort for everyone .

If something happens at a DVC which makes a guest's visit less than optimal, I do like to hear about it what the problem was and what was done to fix it. I have gone to WDW enough times to know that not every visit is going to be perfect (expectations have a lot to do with this, too). I like to have an idea as to how to deal with the unusual stuff, so that I can get my vacation back on track. I don't view that as resort bashing, but rather providing valuable information to a DVC owner. If a lot of folks seem to be having the same problem, then maybe as a group we can get our management to fix it!

I also enjoy hearing about the wonderful things that happen--it is wonderful to day dream thinking about a wonderful relaxing stay at a DVC property (no matter which one it is !)

I can think of a couple of instances (using cash ressies non-DVC) where I have taken problem solving techniques which I have learned from this board and applied it to a less than optimal situation and have had excellant results. When it comes to turning around a vacation--this is priceless!

I wouldn't call it bashing, but the BCV seem to be getting complained about a lot, causing people to worry over staying and buying there. I've heard negatives about all the resorts, VWL is too dark, too deary, etc. OKW is too far away, too quiet. BWL is too loud, too busy. Vero and HH don't seem to really get "bashed"as much, I guess since they are not on property.

.... So I'll repeat it here: OKW.

I know most "Bashing" usually starts out unintentionally or just as a joke then gets blown all out of proportion until the thread is locked.

Just from my observations it appears to ME that OKW takes a lot of jabs and that a few OKW owners take it very personal, which usually leads to an ugly thread. IMO BWV, for the purpose of bashing, represents all other DVC resorts so maybe VWL and BCV aren't mentioned as often, but the "tiny rooms" & "high points" jabs apply to all three. While there are some BWV owners who take these jabs as personally as the above mentioned OKW owners, for the most part I think most owners are very secure in their purchase and just laugh it off.

PS: I don't classify negative trip reports about bugs,dirt,CM's etc as bashing. Those IMO aren't resort issues, they are people issues. All resorts, regardless of size or location, should be serviced equally.

I voted for OKW just because it seems that alot of OKW owners seem to like to bash other resorts - so folks like to retaliate, it's a natural thing to do.

I agree with this newbie. I have only been on here alittle while as well. It does seem that BCV gets the bad press. Don't know why, haven't gone yet.

Interesting how many feel BCV is as high as it is given how many less BCV owners there are compared to how many OKW owners there are. I think Vero is pretty high up there expecially along the lines of "unfair." Just my opinion.

I suspect over time all get about equal press good and bad. Newest resort gets the bulk of press, so BCV is on the block right now. Next Spring it will pass the baton to SSR.

I concur with many of the other posters that each resort has its special features that attract some members and turn off others. We have stayed at three of the DVC resorts to date and enjoyed each for its special qualities. I must admit that we have stayed at nearly every WDW resort at one time or another. Some more than once and have always had a great time. Over the next year we will get to visit the other three DVC resorts. SSR will have to wait its turn

As you might suspect, I voted for all equally.

I voted for BCV because right before we left for our first trip home there were quite a few negative posts about the resort and it was really starting to worry me. We went, and had a wonderful trip and had no problems at all. I have learned to not worry about other peoples opinions and try to always make my own judgments. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes and that's what makes the world go round. And naturally, everyone is partial to their own resort.
