DVC Resort bashing

Stick around......things have just been quite for awhile. Things run in cycles on this board.

It depends on what you call "unfair."

BCV, BWV, VWL 1BR and 2BR rooms are smaller than OKW. That is a fair point for comparison. Giving square footage comparisons is fair. Calling some rooms modifiers like tiny,etc are not fair. Too subjective.

OKW does not have a slide or lifequards at the pools. The other resorts do. This is a fair point for comparison. Saying a pool is boring, or has a scary or stupid clown, etc. has to be considered too subjective and an unfair point.

You cannot walk to a theme park from OKW or VWL. Fair points.

You cannot park in front of your unit at BWV,BCV, VWL.

You may have to walk longer to get to room at BWV. Fair. Saying the walk is a mile long or takes 15 minutes is a distortion and unfair. (impossible- from aerial views it cannot be much more than 1/6 of a mile)

Saying OKW is like being offsite is unfair...it is onsite. Period. Unfair.

So looking at what I have defined as fair and unfair I would say the most unfair comments are usually directed at--------> BWV.

That's my two cents (marked down for free consideration.)

All the DVC resorts are great, that is why we all own a piece of at least one of them

The experience desired on the trip (assuming space available) will drive our choice of where to stay

Wanted to share some poll data with Jimbo regarding the degree to which BCV is seen as having unfair resort bashing directed towards it.

Hopefully unfair resort bashing will not continue.

Well. I see that the first entry in the poll. the one that has the most votes, is "BVC". I'd bet that at least some of the BVC voters thought they were choosing Boardwalk Villas (BV), so I'm not sure how definitive this is. That would explain why a small, new resort got nearly 100 votes.

Regardless - The recent trip reports about conditions at BCV prompted our family to switch plans for our trip next year from BCV to BWV. People are reporting what they saw, and I think it's insulting to call them "jealous," as you did.

What you call "unfair resort bashing" I call useful information and I'm glad to have access to it.

Unfortunately Jimbo, you continue to mis characterize my post. I agree that trip report information is great and useful and I also appreciate it. However, there is a large volume of unfair non-useful "bashing" that could be elliminated.

Again, in case anyone is "comprehension imparied," Posting resort problems, pros and cons is helpful, nonproductive resort bashing is not helpful.

Enjoy your BWV vacation, it's a wonderful resort.

Since this thread was born a while back, it seems that the bashing has improved (and I am not talking about room reports here). Maybe we are growing up!

Since I never posted the first time around and this thread has resurfaced, I'll add my 2 cents worth now. I personally see very little resort bashing. There are a few people repeatedly throwing little barbs, most of it is in fun. I think there are times when some members are overly sensative about their resort. Each resort is great in it's own way and each and every DVC resort has it's imperfections. Sometimes beauty is in the eye of the beholder. OKW is isolated and requires a car for many to get the full benefit. BWV has long corridors. BCV and VWL have less than ideal views to many. HH isn't on the beach. Many of the resorts have small units/kitchens. I could go on but you get the idea. These are just realities that affect some people significantly and others could care less about.

I don't see much in the way of resort bashing on the Disboards. People do have the right to express how they feel about a resort even if the infomation is of a critical nature. If someone dislikes certain aspects of a resort that I love that in no way is a reflection on me personally. People that come on the boards have many other resources to base their decision to purchase or not to purchase. I don't think that people should curtail there comments to make others feel that their favorite resort would no longer be viewed favorably. I can understand Disney being concerned about perceptions, but we are customers not those that are making profits on whether or not someone buys real estate interest in the DVC.
So live and let live make allowances for view points that may not conform to your own. Even if you feel that there is no basis for their views It is still someone's opinion.

Having been around here for a few years now, I have to say that resort bashing is at an all time low. However, every resort has seen its share of the "bashing" whether seriously or in jest.

I also think every resort goes through periods where some things aren't handled properly....housekeeping or maintenance is off...or some CM's seem less than adequate...and we've had reports like this from every DVC resort at one time or another. Then things improved. I don't know if they have one crew of folks who don't do a good job who are shuffled from one resort to the next or what....but I recall hearing about it at OKW way back when (before being here at the DIS...almost put me off of the idea of DVC) at BWV around the time I joined....at VWL also around the time I did an add on there...and now there seem to be some concerns at BCV. Really its probably just a settling in period....when the resort is brand new there aren't problems then all of a sudden after a certain amount of hard use, things need to be fixed....or it becomes apparent that the housekeepers have cut corners, or whatever. And I bet the same will happen at SSR in a couple years.

I voted for Vero taking the most undeserved amount of flack. Its a great resort.

An example of what I would consider resort bashing in addition to the discussion above would be if I started a thread asking the forum if they know where a good place to get an ice cream cone was when staying at the Beach Club Villas and the responding replies said something along the lines of: I would never be in the beach club area to get a cone because of the lack of crescent lake views, tiny rooms, no monorail, yadda, yadda, yadda.... a response that has nothing to do with the intent of the thread by the original poster (I know threads get off track, I'm as guilty as anyone else on that score) and is directed deliberatly negatively towards a specific DVC resort in a repetative ongoing manner with the same issues reported over and over by the same poster in multiple unrelated to BCV negative issues threads. The statements may very well be true, but when way, way, way out of context to the discussion and brought up only with the intention of goading or non-trip report complaining, I see that as an example falling into the rhelm of resort bashing.

If a thread is comparing the pros and cons of a resort with balanced discussion, or reporting a bad resort experience to let others know of a problem, I don't see that as resort bashing.

Just my $0.02.

One of the reasons we bought into DVC (we close sometime this coming week) is because there was so little resort bashing on this board. Over the years I've visited boards that were absolutely aflame and dominated by some pretty nasty individuals. On this board yes, there's some bickering, but it has that "family" feeling rather than all-out war. That tells us that people who have years of experience with DVC are pretty happy with their memberships, and might not be a bad lot to spend some time with. Things are quite a bit different in some other parts of the timeshare world. We think you folks really sound pretty civilized.

I think there has been substanial reduction in resort bashing since this poll was conducted. Great to see. Perhaps BCV has been taking an unfair share of knocks lately.
