Dvc rental store

Update: Just checked. dvcrentalstore.com has upped their payout for reservations less than 7 months out to a whopping $14/point! LOL.
I guess they can do that since they are charging more than Disney rack rates lol.

Out of points so I was going to rent some to supplement my stay and they were $38.62 more a night without the cancellation policy. If I wanted to select the "Cashback Protection" it added an extra $100.

Of course going through Disney doesn't cost anything extra for cancellation peace of mind.

Hi guys!! It’s almost time to submit for my hard to get room…..can I request on both sites? What happens if they both want a deposit. Do I do that and then just wait to hear back

I have ptsd from losing my dvc rental store war 🤣

I probably wouldn’t request on both sites at the same time or you might lose a deposit. If you’re requesting something more than 7 months out, it is hard to say which one will be better. The only resorts where I have seen dvcrentalstore.com paying owners more than dvcrequest.com are BCV and CFW (paying $19/point). Every other resort, dvcrequest.com pays either the same or more. So, I would think that would attract more owners to dvcrequest.com, but it is really impossible to say with any certainty. Many owners renting through them are probably less concerned about getting top dollar for their points and more about the easiness of the process.

So, maybe if I were in your shoes, I’d try dvcrequest.com first? I say that with low confidence. I hope you get it though!

Thank you so much for this info! It’s neither of those resorts and it’s 11 months out! So fingers crossed. I appreciate the advice

Ok update from dvc rental store so hopefully this can help someone else

They cannot actually try to get you a reservation/match until you pay a deposit. They are waiting for someone to “claim the reservation” it’s been 7 days…..she said a few resale dvc contract ppl tried but it has to be direct dvc so they weren’t able to. We could lose availability in the process

David’s is closed but I am going to call them tomorrow to see if their process works the same.

I feel like I should’ve submitted on both sites and went with whoever had the match first. I’m so worried I’m going to lose it completely
I know that as someone who used to rent my points that I'm spooked. I imagine a great deal of Members are not willing to risk Disney's wrath by renting.

Not to get off-topic (and definitely not to get political) but has the Big Beautiful Bill restored the 1099-K reporting levels to the original levels? I can’t determine if this applies to the 1099-K that PP would issue for timeshare rentals.
Yes it applies to the 1009-K for PayPal when renting DVC. ( I am not a tax professional )

This is a really good catch. I had not been paying attention to this at all, but I think you are right. Pretty good summary here:
https://www.taxesforexpats.com/arti...k-600-rule-reversed-in-latest-tax-reform.html

So, @HyperspaceMountainPilot, I don't think you are going to get a 1099 for the money you got paid through PayPal (assuming payments received through PayPal were under $20,000 and you had less than 200 such transactions :-)). Looks to me like this change has been made retroactive and immediate meaning there will be no 1099-K reporting requirements for 2025 unless you meet those thresholds. This is actually quite big news from a DVC rental perspective.

I'm pretty sure dvcrequest.com pays owners through PayPal and I believe dvcrentalstore.com gives you the option of PayPal or ACH or check - if you don't want a 1099 and you rent through dvcerentalstore.com, you probably want to make sure they pay you through PayPal because I don't think the same 1099 reporting thresholds would apply if you get paid directly by them.

Really good catch, @MyDogTink.
