When I called about joining DVC on Monday my guide asked if anyone referred me. I was kinda caught off guard because I hadn't thought about it, but I thought it would have been nice to use someone here as the referer (because I do think people's insight did affect my decision). I can't remember the specific's but I know it's $200 for first referral and goes up from there.

Anyway, my point is, if someone is asking for help here on deciding whether to join or not, for anyone who responds with info should have a standard sentence like "If you find the advice in the responses your receive to be particularly helpful, please choose someone as a referral before joining." or something like that.

Does that make sense? Is that within the spirit of the referral program?

Hi Wvalx,

I agree. Most of the time people don't think of that. If you would like to name a referral, and don't have any one yet, please email me. I will be glad to provide you with my info. Just curious, who is your guide?

Thanks for bringing out such a good point. Good luck with your purchase and welcome home. :earsboy: :earsgirl:

My guide is Byron Helgeson (sp?), nice fellow.

I told him "I bet this was your easiest sale." :teeth:

And you are correct, it is $200 for the first and upwards from there, but remember this is in one calendar year, so I start at $200 again this year. We used a former colleague as the person who referred us, mainly bcs his name was short and easy to spell, and we remembered where he lived when we were remembering the ppl who referred us; DW's former secretary also strongly influenced, but could not remember spelling of long Italian last name off the top of my head.

Note that the same team of guides who sold to the referring member is usually also assigned to the new referral, I believe for the sake of continuity. I happily recommended our guide, Larissa Prendergast, and her excellent and extremely helpful team (she actually talked us down in the number of points purchased after figuring our expected usage!).

It would have been nice if I had discovered this board before joining, but our decision was a real no-brainer: we have a severely handicapped 6 yr old son (severe CP), and so a place where it is warm, completely handicap-accessible, and where he is treated like royalty , well, that's the place for us! And his little sister doesn't mind at all:teeth: .

If you are still deciding, I would be happy to share my finance-geek (my job description) thoughts on DVC's payback period, with or without financing; but there is already a thread on that, as I recall. So no reason to use me as your referral (tho you could if you wanted;)), since there are so many other great candidates here.

you might ask Doc - but I think there is a way for the board to recieve credit for the referral.

and they are illegal in others, leading to some resentment among DVC members in states like NY where they are not legal.

Fortunately for me and the folks who referred me, Massachusetts allows them.
