I have a quick question...DH & I know that we will be taking yearly trips to WDW (we both LOVE it there) and we are looking into DVC for the future. I was wondering lets say I bought the minimum pts at SSR @ 150pts for $15,100 are my points renewed each year (Say I don;t use 150 one year do I have 300 points next year?) Can you bank points? (Say the first few years with an infant we just get a studio and have like 15 pts left over, can I bank those and have 165 the next and continue banking until I have enough for when we will need a 2 bedroom?) Final question (I promise) How much do extra points cost (per point please)

Thanks everyone...I am gonna post this in the DVC board area as well!!

You can bank your points for one year. After that, if you do not use them you will lose them. Also, you can borrow from a following year. Therefore, it is possible to have 450 in one year if you wish.

What happens if I buy the 150 pts, then just get a studio the first, second and thrid years., that only costs 135pts/year then each of those years I have an additional 15pts. Would I have 165 the next year and then only use 135, am I able to bank those extra 30 for the following year (180pts)...is it as long as I am going yearly?

It would work as follows:

Year 1: 135pts bank 15
Year 2: (165 pts total) 120pts + 15 banked = 135pts then bank 30 "year 2" points
Year 3: (180 pts total) 105pts + 30 banked = 135pts then bank 45 "year 3" points

So you would always be using your banked points and banking the balance for the following year. You would then have to make the decision after "x" years on what to do with the "extra" points (longer holiday? more than one holiday? etc).

Points can only be banked for one year, as stated. That is, say you had 15 points left over from your 2007 Use Year, you could bank them to 2008 (so long as you meet banking deadlines - its NOT automatic and if you fail to bank or use you lose).

Your banked points would always be used first (assuming no complications like multiple home resorts, etc.) on your next reservation in the Use Year they were banked to. So if you used another 135 points in 2008, the 15 that were banked in 2007 are used up, then 120 of your 2008 Use Year points, leaving you with 30. If you do not plan to use them in the 2008 Use Year, then you can bank them into 2009 (again, per banking deadlines), and so on.

Since you can only bank points from one Use Year into the next, and they expire after that Use Year (you CANNOT bank the same points again), and since you can only borrow points from the upcoming Use Year, you can NEVER have more that three years worth of points at your disposal at any one time (without outside sources like renting).

Maybe I'll try and write up something and put it on a web page I've been thinking of setting up anyways...

As long as you use more points than you bank each year, that will satisfy the banking requirements. For example, bank 60 and use 65 the next year...will be fine. BTW, you will now have to buy 160 points, because teh minimum purchase went up recnetly to 160.

I feel that you miss the real value of DVC if you only stay in studios. We love the space and convenience of the 1 bedrooms for just the two of us. We also like to take friends and family along in a 2 bedroom. The good thing about getting the 160 versus the 150, is that you will more easily qualify for international exchanges should you wish to do that occationally.
