if i'm interested in becoming a dvc member, can i purchase points from any of the 7 resorts? or only saratoga springs? is one better than the other? is there some place you can direct me to to get comparison?

any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you! :flower:

Which resort is 'better' is purely a judgmental call. Everyone on this board probably has their favorite resort. Which is best for you depends on what you like.

As to purchase, Disney DVC is currently selling SSR and AKV. At times they have points available at the other resorts (from contracts acquired by previous owners selling (DVC exercises ROFR)) There may be waiting lists for some resorts. This could be several months or more.

You can also purchase resale. The Timeshare Store is one of the sponsors of these boards, and has numerous contracts available. You can follow any of the links at the top of the board. Resale you'll probably find contracts for any of the DVC-resorts.

There's a big difference in the 'value' of resales due to a number of factors including the asking price, status of points (banked, current, borrowed), maintenance fees, and closing costs. If you want to investigate resale further, feel free to post any questions here. Don't go just by asking price.

If you purchase direct from Disney, the sale will go very quickly, and you can finance through them if you want (although the rate isn't the best).

adding to what caskbill said, you can also put the sale of your points on a credit card if you go through Disney, not resale. If you use a card that gives you rewards or airmiles it can be beneficial. Of course always consider the interest rates. It works well this way if you are going to pay for DVC and not finanace. Also remember all DVC rsorts EXCEPT SSR and AKV contracts expire in 2042. SSR - 2054, AKV - 2057.The best value through Disney right now is SSR. They will give you all 2006 points in addition to all 2007 points and a $10 credit per point. I think that lowers it to $94 pp. AKV is $104 pp.:)

Last I checked, AKV has the option of an $8 per point incentive (lowering it to $96 per point) or a set of developer points* ... Or has that ended?

*Developer points are a set of points that are available for immediate use so that you can make a reservation at another resort (since you can't make reservations at AKV yet) to hold you over until you get your 2007 points. I believe the developer points expire 7 months after the purchase date, and can't be banked, borrowed or transferred, so you use 'em or lose 'em.

As of Monday 4/2 that promo was still available, b/c a friend of mine was offered it. Her guide told her it would be available for an undetermined amount of time, depending on sales.
