To help with with the number of points to purchase I have created an Excel sheet. Since we may not use our points every year; the worksheet helps with the number of years you run out of points if you borrow. I would gladly share this sheet with someone experienced to see if it makes sense and then post it somewhere if it is thought to be helpful.

The worksheet works by entering:
1) The points you plan to purchase
2) Typical points used per year (there are links to point calculator)
3) If there are borrowed or used points as with resale
You can also enter the price/pt for purchase cost.

It ouputs for 15 years the available points, years with inadequate points, lost points, maintenance fees for all sites. You can then modify individual years with precise numbers to see the effect.

For instance - I entered 218 as typical used points (1br -OKW - Magic season) and only 170 purchased. It shows that years 4, 9 and 13 will not have enough points for the 1bdrm. I then modified individual years by entering 0 for year 1 and 344 for a Hawaii trip. It adjusted all the other years.

I will e-mail this sheet for someone to try if interested. It will work best with Excel 2000 since there is a macro in the sheet.

One other thought on the sheet. I thought it might also be useful to current members that have a small number of points at a second resort and need to bank/borrow to book rooms in the 11 month window.

Could perhaps a formula be derived in reverse? In other words: enter where you want to stay, what time of year, how often (over a 3 year period), and it tell you how many points you need to buy? I know we can look in our books to do this, but it would be neet to have a calculator!
