DVC Presentation

So I'm confused by the above responses. But does the non-member DVC sales pitch have the chance to win a $200 gift card with usually only a handful of people showing up?

For the non-member sales pitch what do you get for going? A bottle of water only?

Our first DCL cruise is October and I'm trying to understand if it may be worth us going.

At the non member event this year on the Magic I only received water. 3 years ago on the Dream they offered alcohol

Bottles of water that probably cost DCL pennies each at best. Cheap champagne and orange juice could not have cost much more.

Yes. And some of those people already own DVC but attend anyway.

Yes. We got a Copper Creek pin also. I suspect they had to eliminate the free alcoholic drink from the sales presentation for legal reasons - they would not want someone saying “they gave me alcohol and it made me suggestible”.

Based on the responses above, sounds like they are still doing it, though, at least in some sessions? The existing-member session is just another glorified sales pitch for add-on points/contracts.

It seems like there are mixed reports of member and non/member gatherings. Seems like the member ones may include alcohol and the non ones do not.

Right. To your point about people complaining they were plied with alcohol in order to induce a sale, that could just as easily apply to existing members who said they bought those add-on points at Riviera because there were overserved, no?

I mean, for the limited number of people who show up to these events, does DCL really have to go cheap with bottled water for non-members?

The draw is now open to everyone but I noticed on my last cruise this past winter, the presenter actually drew two cards, quickly looked at the first and read out the second. I am assuming the first was an existing dvc member. I was not impressed at all. I also signed up to see someone and they were giving an. enhanced onboard credit for anyone who did. They cancelled my appointment at the last minute and rebooked the next day. When I checked at guest devices to see why my credit hadn’t been applied, I was told it was only for the day of the presentation. I did eventually get a small amount but not the enhanced. I didn’t bother saying anything. We have bought both times on board cruises. Decided I was not interested in dealing with the representatives on this particular cruise. They were nice enough but manipulated things in a way that made me very uncomfortable.

I personally don't buy this as a reason. You pick a time later in the day to meet with the guides and potentially buy points. A free cocktail or two at least a few hours beforehand wouldn't adversely affect one's decision making - if you're somehow showing up trolleyed to the meeting, that's on you. DVC has a cooling off period, so even if this were to happen, once someone has sobered up they can easily rescind the contract without penalty.

Yeah, I've witnessed one of the guides standing at the front of the lounge trying to grab everyone's attention with the slideshow whilst the other was at the back going through all the slips in the box, and then acting like she had "just" drawn it out and hadn't already read it. I've only seen it happen that one time, but it doesn't make it any less cruddy.

IDK. The fact that they already own might make a difference.

Honestly the one time I was at a general presentation where they had drinks, they were not lovely mimosas but some yellow drink that tasted like yellow Triaminic, so bottled water would have been preferable.

On the Fantasy last November, everyone who attended the non member sales pitch received a 50 dollar on board credit and they did the 200 dollar raffle. We also received a trading pin. No drinks other than bottled water.

I did win twice going on embarkation day also my friend a year later
And I am Canadian so no you don’t have to be us citizen
