DVC Poly Announcement

I'm not sure I get the appeal of adjoining studios. I love a 2 bedroom lock off, but adjoining studios?? A big announcement that doesn't tell us much is strange. I feel like I am in a late 2000s iPhone line. Why are they being so secretive?

Until the legal docs are filed and the license to sell the project is granted, they are restricted on what they can say and do.

I'd like 2 connecting studios if they are less points than all the 2BRs...doubtful though (when I go in August...2BR value at AKV is 243 for week...so 121 for a studio for a Magic week at Poly or less :rotfl2:...VGF is 169 for a studio magic week).

Two connecting studios let you cram ten people into two small spaces.

The Poly studios will be the largest studios in the DVC system, even larger than OKW's studios. If I recall correctly, the Poly studios will be about 460 square feet in size.

Connecting studios might be very attractive to families. The parents could occupy one studio while the kids occupy the connecting studio.

point intensive for that!

I think it's a pretty safe bet that the studios will be the highest point cost studios available. A wild guess would be 10% more than VGF cost. They'll promote the additional space and features (washer/dryer maybe?) and it will be what it is. They won't have a problem filling it and they likely won't have a problem selling it. The selling depends on the cost, I don't think they can go above VGF but that doesn't mean they can't raise VGF.

It will be interesting. I just can not see it being more points for a studio at the Poly than the GF when the rooms at the GF are more than those at Poly,

But i have been wrong before

I hope you're right, but they're making the rooms significantly larger I think they will use that to justify a point increase. They also may add some additional perks like W/D and/or a nicer kitchen area. Folks complain about how small a studio is but they still don't want to incur the cost of a larger room. Could you fit a king bed, a sleeper sofa, a sleeper chair, and a open kitchenette? Might these studios turn out to be DVDs approach to a hybrid solution between a 1BR and a studio? If you add value to it for folks they will pay the higher price, regardless of whether the GF is a more expensive resort. Heck, if they were able to do the above I may even buy in at direct pricing. We're a family of 3 now and a studio works but a little more would be great. A 1BR more than we really need. Something in the middle would be perfect.

i would like them to keep a small/stackable washer/dryer but maybe skip the full kitchen (since they want people to eat onsite anyway and a lot of us just call the stove part of the "kitchen decoration" of the villa) and living room area. a king bed would not be a bad idea.

a hybrid idea would be a better plan than just having a bunch of studios...but it will be confusing as they will be different than everything else on property.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the Poly rooms were for the most part, the largest rooms at WDW. My guess is that every room is still the same size, just configured differently. Does anyone know otherwise?

I think the same way about the stove. Maybe a two burner cooktop for breakfast, but I don't need an oven. At least, it would be one of the first things I would give up on vacation. No desire to cook, but a reasonable amount of counter space for snacks/drinks, a microwave, little fridge, and sink that's all open to the living area are things I think most would use. It's all probably just wishful thinking, I'm just trying to come up with ways the additional space could be used and make people more willing to pay additional points.

I actually just did my own reseach, and saw SIMILAR numbers elsewhere. I saw (typical) Poly room listed at 404 SQ Ft. The only DVC villa that was listed as bigger was boardwalk at 412. So maybe a sort of hybrid is what it will be. It's fun to speculate

I think the 3 newest longhouses had larger rooms plus balconies on both the 2nd and 3rd floors. The older ones do not have balconies on 2.

I thought I'd seen somewhere the poly DVC studios estimated at 460 sqft. Not sure how reliable that number is, but it's what I assumed when thinking about what they could do with the extra space.

According to Tikiman, the Moorea Longhouse studios will be 465 square feet. See http://www.tikimanpages.com/poly/tahiti. The Pago Pago and Tokelau Longhouses also have 465 square foot studios. I trust Tikiman's information more than other sources when it comes anything to do with the Polynesian Village Resort.

Part of the confusion about the size of the Poly studios may come from the fact that some of the other Poly longhouses have smaller rooms. For example, Aotearoa Longhouse rooms are only 415 square feet in size. But these longhouses with the smaller rooms are not being converted to DVC studios.

There is no washer/dryer or hybrid kitchen in the new studios. Tikiman has a floor plan for the studios and the is no washer/dryer and the kitchenette is the standard DVC kitchenette we see in most resorts (BLT excluded).
