DVC Poly Announcement

I'd rather stay at VGF and take the short walk down the beach if I want to experience the Poly "vibe".

That's an option!

I've stayed at the VGF last February and it was absolutely beautiful.

But I can't say that I would rather stay there.

I agree with the blocks, the point allocation at each resort isn't exact but it's close and you can make this comparison. Problem is it's resort specific and we don't have a baseline for poly yet. Closest you can get is VGF and you would expect VGF to be more per block than any other because they are the premier resort. Using your example the poly studio could be more than a VGF studio because it's more blocks and I agree with this. Some folks think poly will come in lower than VGF but I just can't see it, I don't think that's how Disney thinks. It's not about what's fair, they will set the cost at what they believe they can get and not a penny or point less. If the poly studios were exactly like VGF, I would say they would be cheaper. They're not the same, they're bigger and DVD recognizes this and I believe will price accordingly and my opinion is the cost will be higher. I also believe they will have no problem finding buyers, depending on how it ends up I may be one of them and then years down the road I may sell because my needs and preferences changed.

I would love if the Poly was a little less than the GF. The difficulty I have in guessing possible costs is that I would much rather stay in the Poly than the GF. My opinion of worth is skewed towards Poly. I hope I am in the minority and Disney wants to maintain the GF being the flagship. Hopefully they will mark the bungalows through the roof in order to balance the relatively low cost of the studios...... The other point would be that if trhey want more than 165 a point for ownership, the points per stay can't really go to high. Just like BLT was, in 5 years anyone will be able to book at the 7 month ..... just maybe not the "parking lot view " rooms.

The decision whether to book a two-bedroom or two connecting studios can be swayed by so many different factors. For some families, full kitchens and washer/dryers have little appeal. I've heard parents, especially moms, who say they are on vacation and have no intentions of spending their valuable time cooking dinners and doing laundry. Others say they get the dining plans and eat all their meals outside the room. A studio's microwave and mini refrigeration is adequate for their needs. As long as the parents and the kids are sleeping in separate rooms during their vacation, some families are happy. The kids can be put to bed at their normal bedtime, while mom and dad can stay awake and have some privacy for a few extra hours.

Until the PVB's point chart is released we won't know the cost of its studios. But my gut feeling is that two PVB studios will be cheaper than a two-bedroom in most resorts.

I think with a family a washer/dryer is a big convenience. Kids tend to "mess" clothes and it's easier to wash in the room than go to the resort laundry.

Last year a friend and I went to Disneyland for 8 days (originally there were 3 of us) and one of the reasons we got a 1 bedroom over a studio was being able to wash half way through the trip so that we didn't have to bring as much. We stayed 4 nights at VGC and 3 nights at PPH, so we did the laundry before we moved.

I agree with 3 kids they can make a huge pile f laundry in the blink of an eye. The beauty of the 1 bedroom is you can do it without wasting time. I always throw on a load at breakfast time and lave it as we go to the parks then put it in the dryer when we get in at night. Using the laundry rooms you need to take time out to do it.

And while we do not cook on holiday we do do hot dogs or frozen pizza the odd night. We go for 18 nights so it is nice to get a break from eating out. Also nice to have a relaxed breakfast in Jammie's instead of ready and out for breakfast. We find it saves time. Sure we could do this in a studio but we are sit round the table people.

I've got a feeling you're going to be passing on the poly then. A 2BR savannah at AKV in magic season is 372. That would mean that the poly lakeview studios would have to be under 186. Currently GFV lakeview studios in Magic season are 199.

Probably. We have a split stay for 1st week in Aug 2105 booked...3 nights BWV in a 2BR-standard view and 4 at AKV in a 2BR-savannah view...341 points total. So a studio at Poly for that week would have to be less than 170 points and a studio at VGF is, as you mentioned, 199 (or 169 for cheaper view)....BLT studios are 183-153-139 for that week.

We basically never do just a studio. We're in a one bedroom or a two bedroom pretty much all the time, unless we happen to be getting a grand villa. I am completely uninterested in connecting studios. I like having easy access to the washer dryer, and I have a child who still naps, or at least rests, every afternoon. I can't imagine that two studios would be fewer points than a one bedroom at most other resorts, and we need two separate spaces at this stage. I might try the larger over water units if I can book them at the 7 month mark, but it looks like we won't be adding on, or interested in staying there often.

If this becomes a trend, I'll be glad we own at "older" resorts!

We stay in studios most of the time and having access to more studios on the monorail works well for us. Will be interesting to see how the point cost compare to BLT and VGF for a studio.

Cold plunge pool, you'll have to pay me to go in one.

It varies for time of year and week day or weekend, but on the average 2 studios costs the same as a 1 bedroom. The only reason we don't do it is because they don't guarantee proximity-- it seems at the poly they will. The in room laundry does make a difference to us also, but we take many shorter trips where it won't matter.

For us the attractive thing with 2 studios connecting will be the bathroom count. The two baths in the 1 bedroom at BLT and AK make them so much more usable. I was disappointed to see GF not having two in a one bedroom. Bad call.

Do not expect it to be that cold. That is a small amount of water to heat up, and based on location it should get a ton of son.

It is not a hot tub by any means, but 9 months out of the year it will be like bath water.

My pool in NJ (full sized 29,000 gallons) gets a lot of sun, and come july is like 80 for water temperature. That plung pool is probably like 500 gallons and will be baking in the florida sun.

(however If it had been a hot tub...that would have been sweet)

I'm looking forward to trying out the bungalow. We would only stay 3 or so nights since it sounds like the points will be incredibly high, then off to SSR of OKW for the rest of the week.

It's great having so many resorts to choose from now, something for everyone!

Wow. I'm shocked by the no 1 or 2 bedrooms. Is this confirmed or still a rumor? I will never get DH to stay at Poly in a studio. He has become a 1 bedroom snob!

Exactly. We definitely will not be buying. I view this new DVC phase of all studios as cheapening the DVC brand. I see absolutely nothing deluxe about an all studio resort.
I agree, no washer/dryer. More people in less space. They took the cheap way out. Those buildings should have been torn down. Compared to BLT and Grand Floridian, The Poly will be second class. 20 bungalows and some have a great view of the transportation and ticket center. We walked over to the Poly today from BLT and all I can say is Disney Blew it and who ever is responsible should find another job.

We walked over to the Poly today from BLT and it's sad. Disney really took the cheap way out. Those buildings should have been torn down. There was so much potential there. They have cheapened the DVC brand and the history of the Poly. Compared to BLT and the Grand Floridian, it will be second rate. Cramming more people into less space. All studios, no washer/dryer, no full fridge, no hybrid kitchen. No thanks. Who is making these poor decisions?

Although some of the bungalows have an awesome view of the transportation and ticket center.

Are you new to the new Disney. They didn't blow it!

Reduced cost to build, more people in less space, sounds like someone is getting a bonus.

The resort will sell out making DVD/Disney tons of cash and be booked at a 98% occupancy rate bringing in more money.

DVD/DVC isn't about making existing owners happy, they are about selling new properties.

:earsboy: Bill

We have no interest in studios unless its just me and DH. We would love to do a bungalow stay, but those will be next to impossible without owning at Poly (and even hard to get with ownership since there are only 20 of them).

Dying to see the point charts for the bungalows! :thumbsup2
