DVC points renting question

I am planning to take my family to WDW from Sept 28 - Oct 6 (8 nights). What I'm wanting to do is stay at AS Movies from Sept 28 - 30, and rent points for a studio at OKW for Oct 1 - 6, as they are weekdays, and the points requiremnets are very resonable. I am wanting to have the DDP, and park hopper & water park tickets for the enitre 8 days. How would this work. Obvioulsy I could add DDP for my 3 nights at AS movies, and buy an 8 day water park hopper ticket at the same time, but how would I add DDP to my DVC rental??

When you rent points from a member you may sign up with the Dining Plan - there is no ticket purchase requirement when staying on points. The member you rent from can add the Dining Plan thru Member Services when they make the reservation for you. You can cancel the dining plan up to I think 1 day before arrival. Payment for the Dining Plan is at check-in. Have fun!

One more point. If you plan on going back to WDW in the future, buy the 10 day pass with no expiration. The extra days are so cheap they are worth keeping for the next trip

Watch out renting points can get you addicted, I did and now own.

You are right the "extra days" are very cheap(less than 10 bucks) but the "no expiration" is expensive.

Going from 8 day(hopper and water parks) to a 10 day no expire(hopper and water parks) could cost about $150. A two day hopper isticket is around that, maybe worth it if they have water park visits left unused.

Actually that's not correct. It's much cheaper to purchase tickets that expire than to pay the extra for the non-expiration just to get two more days.

Ticket prices including taxes:

8-day Adult Ticket: $219.36
Add Park Hopping option: $42.60
Add Water Park option: $53.25
TOTAL: $315.21

10-day Adult Ticket: $223.65
Add Park Hopping option: $42.60
Add Water Park option: $53.25
Add Non-Expiring option: $143.78
Total: $463.28

It will cost $148 more to get those two extra days to use on another trip.

You can check-out ticket prices here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/tickets.htm#blue-tickets

Assuming your next trip is longer than 2-days, it's cheaper to buy new expiring tickets again next time. If your trip was 8 days again, and you had 2-days left, you'd still need to buy for 6 more days.

If you were going to go 5 days this trip and 5 days next time, then the 10-day non-expiring ticket is cheaper than purchasing two 5-day MYW tickets. But if you're going to go all 8-days this trip, then the 10-day non-expiring ticket is not the best deal. You need to crunch the numbers and decide exactly how you'd use the tickets in order to calculate which way is best.

I think that's the key- if you can buy one ticket this time that will last you ALL of your next trip as well, and you know you're going to go again soon, then it's probably worth it. If you're going to have to add on individual days (or even two or three) during your next trip, you're probably better off not doing it.

That is no joke. I have been going to WDW for the last 15 years every year, sometimes more than once a year. I then started renting points from a memeber. Now I am waiting for Disney to pass on a ROFR for BCV ownership. Pixie dust is and addictive drug of some sort.

we go to wdw almost every year for 5 days, but we only visit the parks for 3 days. The other days we swim, or go to a water park.

the 10 day hopper, with no Exp. date and the water park option (6 visits), gives us 3 years of tickets, and the BEST price by far, esp. when you take into consideration the 6 water park days.

Thats what I'm hoping happens to DH ;) I have already looked into DVC loads and even know how many points i want and at which resort :teeth: I just need a couple of years to save and need to convince DH it's the way to go. Maybe thats a whole new thread :rolleyes1

Change "DH" to "DW" and that's me. I didn't think we could afford to stay in a deluxe hotel this trip, and then I found out about renting. We haven't even traveled on our rented points yet, and I'm already looking forward to owning!

Of course, DW's only real objection is that we're broke & won't be able to afford another trip for years. Me personally, I don't let a little thing like reality get in my way, I want to be a DVC owner!!

So far, being a DVC owner has been one of the best things I could have ever done. In May we will be on our 4th trip to WDW in a year. Although if money is a concern, why don't you look at a more traditional time share(marriot, hyatt, etc...) The DVC is great but it is more expensive than any other timeshare you can find. You also only get 50 yrs tops. We got 50 because we bought in the first year of SSR. Most other TS's I've looked up are for life and can be handed down to the next generation. Just a thought.
