DVC Points for other resorts / Interval?

Have you used your points to stay at other resorts or interval? Please let me know your experience doing so. I'm thinking of ~130 point resale initial purchase because that level would let me do some interval exchanges every other year, and also have some extra points to play with for staying at non-DVC resorts at WDW.
Is there a listing of which non-DVC resorts / room categories can hold a family of 5?

Thanks!

You'll be a lot better off just buying the number of points you'll use at DVC and looking for other options for non DVC trips, even if you pay more per point for a smaller contract. But don't cut it too close on the number of points as I suspect you're looking at studios and few people tend to stay with those for most trips once they taste the better units.

In addition to Dean's comments, many interval exchanges are somewhat rigid regarding occupancy limits so you would likely need a 2BR. Non-DVC Deluxe Resorts do allow a fmily of 5 in a room, but the point costs are higher than DVC villas.

Regarding the points needed for Interval exchanges every other year, the point requirements are as follows:

..........LOW ..MID ..HIGH
Studio ..106 ..123 ..134
1 BR .....124 ..144 .. 160
2 BR .....207 ..252 .. 270
3 BR .....276 . 317 .. 349

Since you would need a 2BR for many of these exchanges, you would usually need 270 points (there are a few resorts and dates where 20t or 252 would also work).
