DVC Point Transfer Rules

I thought points of different UY can't be used for one reservation. But now they can be banked or borrowed, making it easier to be used together.

Yeah, I should definitely call MS to try. Thanks! I read the new statement again, and says “not be pending purchaser”, which should refer to passed ROFR to me. But will need a member ID for sure.

You can if you transfer and use for bookings at the 7 month window is my understanding.

They can’t be used for one reservation unless they are transferred.

Once transferred, the points are in the same membership so they can be used with all over contracts in that membership.

Its just the home resort and UY doesn’t change. As you said, now that they allow someone to borrow transferred points for a trip, it gives those who do transfer between their memberships a lot more flexibility.

But if I move my June UY VGF points to my Dec UY membership, I can use them together with my VGF Dec UY points at 11 months or use them with my resale RIV points at RIV at 7 months.

Great example! I think what confused early in the days was the UY month and the UY window.

To make sure I understand everything correctly now (and as a learning for anyone new to DVC),
1. June UY (month) is different from Dec UY so that they become two different memberships under the same member rather than one. This is why they can't be used for one reservation. Once the points are transferred, the points are on the same membership making it possible to be used for one reservation. But these points keep their original properties.
2. UY indicates the time window the points can be used for.
2025 points of the June UY membership can be used for stays between June 1 2025 and May 31 2026.
2025 points of the Dec UY membership can be used for stays between Dec 1 2025 and Nov 30 2026.

To book a stay starts July 1 2026 at RIV, using combined points, the booking window opens at the 7-month mark, which is Dec 1 2025. However, to use them together for this stay, the 2025 points of the June UY needs to be banked (to become 2026 June UY points) in order to book a 2026 July stay. Before the new rule, sounds like you need to bank before transfer, while now you can transfer first and then decide whether to bank later.

😵I guess this is why many folks avoids multiple UY 🤣

Before the new rules for transfer you couldn't bank then transfer. The transfer needed to be done 1st then they could be banked. (ie - only current points could ever be transferred. Ones that were neither banked nor borrowed. Then the new "owner" could bank. They could not borrow them though).

The change to the rule is that they can be already banked or borrowed and you could decide to transfer.

This is my thread and I just realized no notifications. Ha! I will read through and update the main post with anything that needs updating

I’ve read the points transfer rules revision and I’m not seeing a limit of number of points that can be transferred. Has anyone transferred all the points in a use year?

This may have been in a previous reply but here is the official (revised) rule on banked, borrowed, transferred points from the “Disney Vacation Club Multi-Site Public Offering Statement” and on the DVC site Documents section: Exhibit 18 paragraph 6 line g “Allotted, Banked, Borrowed, Reservation, and holding Home Resort Vacation Points MAY BE TRANSFERRED”.

Sorry if this has been answered but if you transfer your own points from one use year to another this is called transferring between memberships and not contracts?

If i transferred between 2 different use years do they keep their original use year? If so then the only benefit to this is so you can use all the points together at the 7 month window?

Points can only be transferred between memberships. Contracts can never change size.

When transferred, DVC puts them in their own temporary contract to use in the membership you moved them into.

The benefit is to use together for a single reservation made at 7 months if different resorts or 11 months if the same.

As you mentioned, they retain their own UY so you have it keep that in mind.

Okay just making sure thank you, my brain wants to say two different uy are different contracts because I am the same member but now I see they are different memberships

Not to worry…people interchange it all the time which can cause some confusion.

I have three memberships and two of the three each of two contracts in them.

The way I think of it is shelves. A membership is one shelf. Contracts sit on them.

Different UYs are different shelves…but you can put as many contracts in it as you want.

Transfers just move the points from one shelf to another and DVC creates that temporary contract “on that new shelf”

Thanks for the analogy! 😀

Since I only have one membership, it appears that I can't use the transfer method to move points between contracts. I want to sell a contract - is there another way that I can move some current points from that contract to another one?

You can book a trip with them and then sell with a delayed closing.

Or, you can transfer to another owner. But you can’t save them for future use and sell the contract they belong to.

Thank you. That's what I thought, but I was hoping that I was wrong!.

HELP please regarding new more liberal transfer "can be BORROWED" policy.
Scenario:
I transferred in 260 BWV 2026 OCTOBER points into my BCV Membership. I want to use these transferred points for a BWV SEPT 2026 trip, not October.
Any chance that means I can borrow these 260 points and use for this September 2026 trip booking?
Did I misunderstand this new rule?

If I call DVC, I will get a different answer (as usual) from the first 3 people I ask.

Anyone know? Thank you.

That is exactly the situation that would allow the transferred points to be borrowed!
