Trying to see how many points is enough. So those of you will grown kids, how many points do you have? ANd do you feel it is too many or not enough? How often do the grown kids join you for a DVC trip? We had 650 points and have been downsizing. At 325 now in 5 contracts and want to sell 1 or 2 of the smaller ones. DH and I like to do Epcot festivals so we probably will do one a year. ANd we also like to go when it's could up here in the tundra. Happy to just do 1 bigger trip or 2 smaller add ons to some other trip. I figured about 230 for that (in 1 BR). But then we may have our 3 grown kids plus, eventually, their families want to do a trip every now and again. Probably Xmas. We did a few with all/most of my in laws. They were up for it every so often, not every year (like 2-3 years apart). Is that typical? Then we could use bank/borrow and cut our alone trips down to less days or to a studio, where needed.

I have 775 and it’s not enough! But, that is because I plan to go monthly in the winters and then do at least one yearly trip with the kids and families.

Now that I have stayed in 1 bedrooms more often, I prefer those for any trips with others.

So, I will be adding on more in the next few years for sure!

Our two kids' interest in Disneyworld hit its low point around the time they graduated high school. Now that they're in their late twenties and one is married, we get asked a couple of times a year if we have enough points for them to come down and spend a long weekend there with us, and everybody is down for a week once a year. We have 670 and no plans to give up any at this time. We also used points to give our daughter and new husband a week at Aulani for their honeymoon, and made the same offer to our son.

All my DS revolted & fled the disney bubble when they entered college...so uncool ‘ya know. First, I was sad, then embraced those he & me trips just fine :)

As soon as a serious GF appears on the scene & gets a whiff of DVC, the tune changes.

Factor in a grandchild or two and you will soon find yourself landing at wyndham bonnett Creek rental for those inevitable bonus trips

We have only the 300 we bought back in 1997 at BWV. It’s enough for a 2 BR at Thanksgiving, so now that DH and I only need 1 BR we should have extra, right? Nope - we used nearly a year’s worth of points for a week at VGF in a 1 BR a couple years ago, sometimes we come twice in a year, and our trip last January was only 6 nights in order to save up for our big family trip next month. Over the years we’ve given our DD and DSiL a honeymoon too. The last family trip was six years ago, in a GV at BWV.

So my suggestion is that you actually forecast out a few years ahead and look at what you’re likely to do, including banking and borrowing, before you divest yourself of too many points!

DH asked if we sell and don't have enough points to book trips we want to do...if I'd be okay with renting something off property. And I am okay with that. We're not big into all the WDW parks and stuff...we mostly just love Epcot and festivals especially Oct-April when it's cool-freezing where we live.

My kids are 20-somethings and DS hasn't been to WDW in like 5 years. Not super hard pressed to return. DDs still go with us and even did the marathon this year with 2 friends. They like to go but they don't ask to go. Or talk much about Disney. But none of my kids would turn away a free trip with us if they are available to go and didn't have something better to do with their time off. DS has been choosing other things with his vacation days. DDs still go with us during breaks (they are about to graduate college).

But I assume they will want to come every now and again once they have significant others and then kids. Though one of my SILs went with us twice and hated it and won't go back. My mom has been with us but gripes about going and isn't into it at all. And my brother would never go in a million years. So maybe my kids and their future families won't be into it either.

We have June UY 205 BWV (150 and 55) and then Aug UY 50 BWV (25 and 25) and 70 CCV. Thinking of selling either the 50 BWV or the 70 CCV. My June UY is blue card. But if I sell the 50 BWV in Aug UY then the CCV won't be blue card. With the 50 (or even one of the 25 pointers) the 70 CCV is blue card. The 50 BWV are blue card alone. But most brokers chard the $150 estoppel fee for each contract which takes off $6pp on each contract.

700 points.
The 2 of us go 3 times a year to WDW and 3-4 times a year to DLR (rotate years).

We take the whole family to WDW (7 at this time) every 4 years. We take the grand kids (one at a time every 2 years) to DLR

So far it works for us

We won't sell, but might get to the point that the kids and grand kids will use the points without us.
We are working on getting DS and DD added to the ownership (splitting between them)

800 points, HHI. We do whole-family trips (3 BR villa) at HHI every few years. Did one 2 BR SSR a few years ago with DD fam (3 yo granddaughter - first trip to see Mickey). Had a 3 BR at Boardwalk booked for a week this August but obviously canceled. Did one whole family Alaska cruise on points. So we mix it up and if we don't have enough points, we'll throw in dollars. DD has second grandchild now and DS just got engaged so hopefully more family trips to come! We gave DD 300 points to take honeymoon when she married so probably offer same to DS.

Wow. Maybe we should held at 650. But we are about to buy a quarter share of a HHI beach condo. We get 13 weeks a year. So we just want the DVC as add on trips to HHI. We will also do cruises too (whenever that returns to normal). And want to see more of the US. So I think our 3-4 trips to WDW a year are a thing of the past. Once a year is good enough. I am thinking our full family would do a trip every 2-3 years together. Gotta think on it a bit longer.

Decided to part with the two 25 point BWV. Keep the larger (and longer life) CCV (also staying with 2 home resorts). Will give it a go and see what happens. I think 205 BWV and 70 CCV is a good DVC portfolio to end up with. If we do every 3 years with bank/borrow we have plenty.

Yes, semi-empty nester here, two nearly 30 year-olds still live at home with me and 31 year old and his wife are back in the nest temporarily due to the pandemic, but that's another story!

I recently added on at RIV and currently have 495 points but prior to that was struggling with having only 320. In the past, we were traveling to WDW every two years and trips were averaging between 10-14 days. My kids don't always travel with me, some join and some stay behind so we were able to make do with a studio at times, but definitely needed a two bedroom when everyone came along and occasionally extended family would also come down with us. Moving forward, I foresee visiting more frequently in the future, for one because we can now and secondly, we'd like to start visiting during the winter for Festival of the Arts in addition to our favorite season for Food & Wine. All that being said, winter trips will likely be a week and fall our usual two weeks but some years I still see us skipping a year for international travel elsewhere.

Either way, I just realized I still don't have enough points and my reply probably didn't help you at all! 😆

I just bought two OKW 25 point contracts for $100 which was a steal. The seller could easily have gotten another $20-30 per point and obviously, isn't part of disboards! Those two 25 point BWV contracts will sell in five minutes...

We have an adult son and DIL which is why we were adding on recently. We gift them pretty much whatever they want as long as we have points (18 nights in the past year). We didn't go this year so it wasn't a problem. We're in the 400's now but can easily blow through 650 in two weeks in the fall. I love vacationing at WDW with our "kids" now as much as when our son was 8 and we bought OKW in 1996. I've decided we will never have enough!

We have two kids, 33 and 26. They eat, sleep, dream and think Disney all.the. time.

Both married and their spouses have the disease along with them.

We have 385 points, but also a house in Orlando about 21 minutes from the Epcot Parking lot. We are long time members-having bought into The Disney Vacation Club Resort in 1992. We still use the points for on site visits. Even with the house it’s so much more convenient to be on site. Tend to book larger accommodations now, have a GV at OKW for next August.

The wife and I stay on site a few days at a time a couple times a year —— except this year.

Can’t see us selling, even with the annual dues getting “noticeable”. Our average buy price is about $55 for OKW and $99 for BLT.

We have 1060 points.
Our adult daughter & i (we have fun together) go for 2 weeks in a 1 bdrm in the Spring, and DH & i for another 2 weeks/1 bdrm in the Fall.
We give our adult son & his GF 8 days twice a year (studios).
This year, we planned on a trip to Italy, paying for it by renting out some points. Once that got cancelled, we decided that this was a good time to use some points, & (for the first time!!!) check out WDW all dressed for the holidays.
No one in our family is focused on rides, so for all of us, WDW trips are relaxing, stress-free vacations. If we were more the type to spend all day in the parks, I doubt we would have owned this long (since 1999), or bought so many points. We're finally at the perfect amount to do what we want, when we want :)

Nope! We have OCT for our OKW points so it was a perfect add on. The closing company combined contracts so closing was only about $500 for both. I happened to spot it at 4 am when I got up one morning, and told DH (once he had a few sips of coffee) we're buying two more LOL!

We have four adult children, all married and soon we'll have fourteen grandchildren. Everyone loves going and our 670 points were working out until the new borrowing guidelines. We typically stay in a 3 bedroom and 2 studios but with the addition of 3 new grandchildren this year we'll most likely have to rent points from another member.

We have 325 points in three contracts and two memberships. We used to have 500 with five contracts and two memberships, but we sold two many years ago. We do mostly one bedroom villas, plus one OKW studio each year. This year with banked points from 2019, we got two four night trips in a one bedroom (Oct and Nov), one four night trip in a studio (Dec) and two three night trips in a one bedroom (Jan and May). We have one point left from our larger membership and 11 points left in our smaller membership. We live about three hours away, so we can do shorter trips with no weekends. We go for Festivals and it was nice to hit F&W four times out of eight days. We never mind staying at OKW where we can get more nights for our points. We do have a Riviera standard reservation for May, but that's just how it worked out with our points this year. And we also got a BWV standard in Jan with all the cancelations. We did BCV last month and AKV-KV on a one bedroom standard.

If you look at our reservations, May is the higher point time. We have Weekday passes so we are blocked out for Summer and Christmas and Easter, plus every Sat and Sun. Christmas trips will eat up your points especially if the whole family is depending on your points for their stay. Our son recently moved back to Louisiana for a job, so he doesn't go with us. He didn't go with us much when he was in Miami since he could only go weekends and we can only go weekdays. So just the two of us.

Irritated! Started process to list contracts on Friday and they still are not listed. Guess these companies don't need the business. Argh!

We have three adult kids - all married.

We own - 460 points
One son has three children and has - 100 points.
One son has one child and has - 75 points

They all have the Disney bug.

Since owning we have invited family and friends. Now it's just for us and my kids/families. My oldest needs a 1BDR minimum now. He now plans on going every other year because of their age (all under 6).

My husband and I plan on using our points twice a year. Many times my kids need extra points. We make do with us staying in a studio many times. We are fine with that. When they are not in need of points, we have more than enough. We will either take a longer vacation or stay in a 1BDR. I was tempted to add on a few times but I think we can make this work for now. We also want to start visiting other non-Disney destinations.
