I am looking to buy DVC. I am wondering if I should buy in Vero Beach (since it is cheaper) and use the 7 months window to go to Orlando resort. I can only travel in July August, President Week and Spring Break. Isn't "points is points" so it doesn't matter where I own. Also, how does it work for Interval Exchange? Does the DVC membership include the Interval Account? Do I call DVC to do the exchange? How much points do I need for exchange to II? What benefits does DVC members have, ie: cheaper tickets to the park? Is there a place where I can dowload the DVC membership guideline?

Thanks,
Maria

Welcome to the Dis-Boards.

If you travel during peak periods, you really need to buy at the location you want to stay at the most. You will really have a problem during peak periods if you are considering buying off of WDW property to save dollars. Remember that you have to pay maintenance fees too. While VB is the least expensive DVC property, it has the highest per point cost.

DVC members aren't interval members. We have access to some II properties that are accepted by Disney. You do the exchange by contacting Member Services. Here is a (Link) to a post regarding the number of points for an II exchange.

One of the best benefits we get is a $100.00 savings off Annual Passes and then the ability to purchase the Disney Dining Experience Card for $50.00 once we have the AP. The AP gets you access to lots of other discounts.

I know of no place that you can download the guidelines but you can ask most questions here and you'll get a pretty good answer.

To sum up; If you want to go to WDW. Buy a WDW DVC. If it doesn't matter which one, then research and see which one fits your needs the most.

I would think long and hard about buying Vero. Maintenance is about $1.00 per per point compared to OKW or SSR. There's also the possibility of a special assessment because of the hurricanes. While the value of the WDW resorts has appreciated rapidly, Vero has not. There's a clause in the contract that a resort can be taken out of the DVC system, either by DVC choice or by a catastrophe (example - destroyed in a hurricane). Although unlikely, it's something to think about. I would only buy Vero if you intend on staying there.

Points aren't all created equal until you hit that 7 month mark. If you will be traveling at the times you just listed you will need that 11month advantage. I would definetly in your case look into buying into the resort you'd most like to stay at on property.
