DVC Member Cruise2009??

DH and I took our second DVC Member Cruise this past September, and loved it! We will not be able to make it this year, but will definitely plan on another one down the road.

Be sure to visit our Cruise Board for lots of tips! :)

This will be our first member cruise. It would have also been our first Disney cruise but we just booked a FL resident rate for a 4 night cruise sailing on May 24th. Just couldn't pass up $449 per person for a cat 9.

By all means come and join us on the cruise meets thread. We have a great group going on the cruise this year. My husband and I have been on all of the Member Cruises so will be happy to answer any question you have.

We look forward to going EVERY year! My husband has made a lot of friends since he's ALWAYS wearing his Philadelphi EAGLES jerseys and sitting in the bar the first day of our cruise watching the game! He became good friends with Vince Papale from last year's cruise. You might have seen us around! LOL!!!

O/T, but when do they normally announce the member cruise? We became members in October of last year and by the time we heard about it, it was already full. I know that it sells out very quickly, so I would like to be on the ball for next year. :)

In previous years, they have announced the next member cruise during the current one.

I suspect that the 2010 Member Cruise will be 9/12 - 9/16. When I checked disneycruiseline.com for 4 night cruises during Sept 2010, there wasn't one that sailed on 9/12. Those dates would be the same time frame as the previous member cruises.

Thanks so much for the information - I will be watching out for it in September!

If you decide you want to go on the 2010 Member Cruise, you will need to be on the phone as soon as the line opens on booking day. The 2009 Member Cruise booked out in one day.

Yikes that is fast! So should I just start calling during the time of the 2009 cruise or will there be some type of an announcement? I want to be sure that I am prepared on day 1!

They will most likely announce the cruise during the '09 cruise but booking won't happen until later. I'm sure you'll read about it here and there will be an announcement on the DVC member site as well as a usual mailing.

Booking day gets a little nuts with long wait times and lots of busy signals. I can say however that I don't know of anyone who we've talked to here on the DIS who tried to get on that day and didn't. The key is not giving up.:)

Can anyone give me some info on the Member's Cruise? We're new to DVC (last Oct) and I know the cruise for this year is sold out but I'd like to know a few things about it. It the whole cruise only for DVC members? Is there any price reduction from the norm? Do you have to use points or can you pay cash? I'd really appreciate any info. Thanks.

DVC charters the entire ship for the member cruise. Booking is handled by MS so only members can call to book. Members could book up to 3 staterooms so non members would be able to sail with members. The cruise is more expensive that a regular 4 night cruise. You could use either points or cash to book the cruise with each passenger fully paid by only one payment method.

The 2010 member cruise should be announced during this years cruise. The next cruise will probably be around the same time. With booking probably in early November. If you decide you want to sail on the next member cruise, you will need to call as soon as MS opens on booking day. The 2009 cruise booked up in one day.

Thanks Michael. I was surprised to hear that the cost is more than usual. Is there a link or anywhere I can find anymore information on the member's cruise. We were on a 3 nite cruise last year and I'm just curious what the differences would be to make it more expensive.

There are a few things that make it more expensive.

For one tips are included while they aren't on a regular cruise.

In addition DVC brings in some awesome guests for shows and lectures. Over the years we've seen Roy Disney, Art Linkletter, Richard Sherman (of the Sherman Brothers), WDW Ambassadors, leading ladies from Broadway musicals to name just a few.

The following link will take you to our web page where there are links for the recaps we've done on the 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007 cruises: http://monorailgreen.info/DVC.html

This link will take you to our live thread from last years cruise: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1952403

Hopefully these will give you a taste of what makes a DVC Member Cruise special.

If you are just going for the cruise itself it really isn't a value, but if you are into Disney history like we are then you might find it well worth the extra cost like we have.

Ugg.... I just realized that we'll be getting off the ship while you all are getting on. (we are taking the 3 night before you sail)
Have fun!!! I hope we can get on the member cruise one day. Got to start saving my points (and pennies) :goodvibes

I was trying to verify that tips were included on this cruise and got this reply from member services today, if anyone wants it confirmed

"hello Roger,

Thank you for contacting Member Services.

Yes, the cash or Reservation Points used for the 2009 S.S. Member Cruise
does include the gratuities. These are not included in other sailings
but are included on this special sailing.

Sincerely,
