DVC Member Cruise

The first indication of a possible date will come when people start posting on the DCL forum that they were called to move their cruise to a different date.

They wait until cash bookings reach the below expectations level. Then they move cash guests to other dates and fill the ship with DVC at premium rate.

Is this to say the DVC Cruise is more expensive? We want to do a cruise in in a couple of years and was looking at maybe trying to do the member cruise, but maybe not....

I just read a decent review that breaks it down pretty well. Still personal preference on whether it is 'worth' the extra cost. We'll have to see if it fits for our family when we are ready to go on another cruise.

They do add some extras for DVC, question is are the extras really worth it to you?
I wouldn't think that the extras are paid for with member activities dues money but who knows?

I would think they'd release the date of the DVC Member cruise sometime after they release the rest of the 2018 dates...so maybe by the end of May/early June?

I'm hoping to get to do the Member Cruise next year, though if it's late-August or early-Sept that isn't going to work for us. I would also love to see a shorter 3 or 4 night Member cruise.

Up until 2015, the Member Cruises were typically 4-night cruises out of PC in the August/September timeframe.

A few times they have held 2 Member Cruises in a single year. One year they did a 3 and a 4 night Member Cruise. Another year they did a 4 night and a 7 night Alaska Cruise.

Worth the cost is a loose term. We did the one in Jan 2013 and it was amazing and we felt is was. Loved every minute. I'd do another one if it fit my schedule in a heartbeat. I liked the special events and guests they had for us but probably more than anything. I loved the common denominator on board. Everyone on board had drank the kool-aid so to speak. No matter where you were on board or what you were doing, you had a common thread to talk to people about.

This year is the Grand Slam of Member Cruises, finally one on the Fantasy, with this there has been at least one on all 4 DCL's ships!

DVC probably will not announce it until after this year's, but often someone looks at the schedule for fall 2018 when it comes out and posts about a gap in a ship's schedule. Lots of us predicted the 2016's DVC MC out of NYC long before Ken Potrock was giving the dates. I mentioned what I thought would be the cruise when we were on the 2015 DVC Member cruise. His expression gave it away to my friends.

Would love to go on a member cruise but my DH won't pay the price, so I guess one is out for me.

I don't think that's been the mo lately. As soon as they release the schedule, people scan them for missing time frames, and speculate that it's a MC, and they've been right the past 3 years or so. The Fall, 2018, schedule has just been released, so I'm waiting to see what our smart DIS-er colleagues have to say!

The additional inventory caused by two additional ships may have changed their original pattern. I will still bet that the DVC dates are forecast as an easier sell to DVC verses cash bookings or due to the additional cost, DVC is money maker for DCL. Interesting note that DCL and DVC are both in the same business unit and is run buy the same upper executives. Disney has a successful record of moving inventory to DVC, converting hotel rooms and giving poorer views to DVC like the BC parking lot behind the BC or AKV CL.

There have be times where DVC has not booked the date with DCL prior to the schedules being released (and bookable). So, DCL has had to call those that booked the cruise that eventually became the MC and move them to a different date.

In the past Disney blacked out using DVC points for any cruise for almost a year so you never know what they will do next.

Hello, Haven't been on here for quite awhile. Hoping there would be a posting about the potential date for 2018 Member Cruise. In some previous years, someone has looked for a space in the schedule, and tried to figure it out. Happy to see more NYC sailings for 2018.
