Beginning 2/26/10, DVC members will have their own special celebration buttons. Buttons that say "Member Since" will be available for DVC members to customize with the year they joined the Club. Guests wearing these buttons will be greeted by cast members with the phrase "Welcome Home".

Personally I think it's cheesy... Sorry.... I agree with the above poster about paying us to advertise...

Hi everyone. Brand new to the fourm and DVC. Just became a member yesterday :woohoo: I'm so excited to have found this forum.

I think the buttons are a great idea and was just wondering if they had them. I brought my nephews down to WDW in July and it was great to have a birthday button for one of my little guys and first visit buttons for all of us. Planing a trip in October and cant wait to wear them with pride!

Congratulations on becoming and member and getting the new free button!!!

Personally I'd like to have a "First trip Home" button, similar to our "First Disney trip" button we had last year.

I saw a guy with the button on Sunday. I was going to ask him where he got it, but he didn't look like he was in a mood for chatting.

It's not that cheesy! No more cheesy than those Birthday or First Visit buttons. It's no worse than someone wearing a DVC Member hat or using their DVC Tote bag.

Hats and Tote bags serve a purpose other than advertisement. I just don't get the idea of wearing a button to have someone say "welcome home" to you. To be honest I don't really care if about the whole "Welcome Home" saying anyway. I would rather hear "Have a magical trip". Because I didn't pay for another "home" I paid for vacation accommodations... I also think the other buttons are cheesy unless they for children. To me they just scream "look at me, pay attention to me, give me free stuff". They give me a feeling of self entitlement...JMO... :)

Great, some where to stick lime green Mickey ears.

Is there any news on how one goes about getting one of these "special buttons"

You'll be able to get them from Guest Relations or your DVC resort like any other celebration button. It also sounds like the DVC information booths will have them as well.

I have to admit to being torn on this one. I loved wearing our "Happy Anniversary" buttons this last January, because we were actually celebrating something (our anniversary - go figure). We were wished "Happy Anniversary" by so many people it was amazing and it really put us in a celebratory mood.

But being a DVC member isn't something I really "celebrate" the same way. I'm happy to be one but that's because I love going to WDW and staying in villas when we go. I'm not sure being wished "Welcome Home" in the parks is going to do anything for me. I like hearing it at the resorts where we stay, but I think hearing it at the parks is going to be a little weird. I'll think about it more, but I just don't put it in the celebration category. Other PP's are probably right, this is a thinly veiled advertising campaign.

That having been said, I don't personally mind advertising for them in that way. We really like our DVC membership and we already tell others about it. If were happy with anything we own, we tell others about it, so I don't really see a difference here. Of course, I respect that others won't feel the same way (either being happy enough to advertise or willing to advertise this way on principle).

I totally agree with you. We went to Disney for my 40th birthday, and it was awesome!!

However with DVC, its like Look at Me...I spent $$$!!! That's pretty tacky if you ask me.

I wonder if we wear these buttons into a DVC discount restaurant, they will remind us of the discount. Dh and I intentionally schedule Chefs de France for lunch to take advantage of the DVC discount...but then...forgets to tell them. :headache:
