Now that we DVCers get free internet, I like to post "live" reports. But whenever I'm trying to post a "Live" report, I log on and start typing away, then after about 20 seconds the system kicks me out and I lose everything I've already typed. It's so frustrating! And forget trying to post pictures, the system definitely won't give me time to do that. So how can I get it to let me post for longer than about 20-30 seconds? Or is there a way to get around the glitch? This has happened to me on several stays, at several different DVC resorts. I'm not at all computer-savy, so please explain it to me in "simple" terms.

I haven't had that problem at all. You may want to call resort internet people (dorry, I don't remember their extension) to see if they can help you. There may be a setting you need to change somewhere.

At home, my laptop gets knocked off after a minute and then reconnects. After that, no problems at all. I don't know why.

Several times I have had this happen when I plugged into the ethernet port on the wall but the problem went away when I plugged directly into the modem.

Here's an example of how computer-unsavy I am. What's an ethernet port? And after that, what's a modem? I so want to post some live reports and pictures.

The modem is the black box on the wall. At OKW it is located behind the corner table in the living room in a one bedroom, and behind the nightstand in the studio.

The ethernet ports are the outlets on the modem (and computer) where the wire connects from the modem to the computer. Or, if you are using a wireless router, the ethernet port connects the modem to the router.

I think the issue is not being "active" when connected to the Internet. By reading pages, clicking on links, going from page to page you are active, but when you click to make a new post and it takes you a few minutes to type, then you aren't being "active" and the connection disconnects.

I was typing day by day report a year or so ago and the same thing happened to me. I hadn't been active for 20-30 minutes, and when I went to post, I lost everything I had typed. I've since learned to type reports up in Word or Notepad, insert placeholders for pics, and then get on the net and make my post and add pics from photo bucket.

I would also gander that by sensing a connection as "inactive" after so many minutes, the Disney IT people are helping people save costs who choose to pay for Internet usage at their resorts. That way, if usage were charged per minute, someone could not run up a huge bill on accident by leaving their computer connected and then leave to go to a park for 8 hours.

So can I type it all in word, then just copy-paste it on the internet? Copy-paste is one of the few things I can do. If I can do this, it solves about 90% of the problem for me. I'm still sad that I can't post pictures (like everyone is just waiting with baited breath for my pictures:rotfl2:) but at least this helps.

They aren't charged by the minute, cash guests pay for a continuous 24 hour time frame. Leaving a computer connected all day wouldn't matter.

It should not auto disconnect after you have accessed and agreed to the Disney resort sign on screen. It should remain active for 24 hours.

Yes. Copy and paste is your friend here. You may have to do some formatting in your DISBoard post, like for paragraphs. But everything would transfer over, minus pics.

There are plugs on the walls, usually labeled "HSI," (High Speed Internet), I think. That is the plug that I used to use all the time--plug the ethernet cord (usually it is in a bag in the closet) into the wall and then into the computer (or travel router). But several times recently I have had intermittent cutting out of service when I used that wall plug so I plugged the ethernet cord into the modem (black box on the floor near the lamp table in BWV 1 bedroom) instead of the wall plug and all was fine. I suppose I should have called for a Disney technician to investigate the HSI plug in the wall but I haven't really been too impressed with the level of service from the IT people at WDW. (Maybe I have just been unlucky.)
