DVC instead of................

I guess you could say we gave up buying another car. The month after I made my last car payment, we started our DVC payments. It's just replacing the car payment, so I'm keeping my Honda for at least 3 more years.

I gave up hiring lots contractors for a major room addition. Decided to do most of the work myself. It took much longer and was like having two jobs for the past two years, but the money I saved bought lots of points. We also gave up a lot of discresionary spending (dinners out, etc).

Well it was kind of a swap- my son was going to a private christian preschool and we weren't sure if we were going to send him there for Kind. or not. We tested him for the district's gifted and talented academy that my dd8 attends and when he was accepted (0 tuition) we decided we wanted both kids together and that also freed up some $

Won't be buying a new car anytime soon. I think I can handle driving my old car a little while longer--DVC is a nice trade off for me.

A European Cruise of the Baltics. I'm getting prices now for next year, but we may have to push it back to '06. We want to go before we retire, but obviously, we wanted DVC even more.

We gave up a trip to Itay for our 10th anniversary. We decided we would rather spend money on something we could share with our girls (ages 4 and 5) for years to come. We'll save Italy for later (and hopefully be able to use an II trade to stay in a resort when we finally make it over there).

Our first trip home is in September (BCV) and we can't wait!!

No trade off here...... it was more like money burning a hole in our pocket and since we vacation several times a year what better solution but to buy into DVC and visit the most magical place as many times as we want until 2042 but with our other pocket burning a hole, we had to add on and we get to enjoy that add on until 2054.

We gave up having another kid. The thought of having to diapers at WDW was not appealing. Plus we would have needed more points to always stay in a 2-bedroom. My wife and I both agree that the thought of pushing around a stroller again is a great form of birth control.

Instead of optional home remodeling.

As it turns out, there were some not-so-optional home maintenance items that reared their ugly heads not too long after we bought DVC, which cost almost exactly what our DVC contract did! So it's a good thing we bought when we did! If the home repairs had come up first, I might not have been willing to bite the bullet on DVC.

We thought we would have to really scrimp and save. But, we wanted to do it anyway. (My husband has been a stay-at-home dad since we moved. )
But, when we returned from our recent trip, (when we made our purchase), we found out he had gotten a job in the local school district!!! Now, he can work and be around for our daughter!

So, now we are already figuring out how we can add on points!!!

It came out of savings for retirement and college. BUT I think it was a good investment for retirement. Even if we don't have money for our medications we'll still be able to go to WDW.

erikthewise, I think that is Murphy's Law! The same thing happened to us. We purchased last fall, and this Spring we had to replace our HVAC system, Roof, Water Heater and siding in back of the house. After all that stress, I was even more grateful that we had DVC because I really needed a vacation and probably would not have taken one.

That's downright eerie!
We also had roof, siding/sliding door (water damage), and heat pump we had to do, a year after buying DVC. But no water heater (yet, knock on wood!).

DH gave up smoking and uses the money he used to spend on cigarettes to make our monthly payments. Yeah for DH!!!

I gave up saving to stay in a WDW hotel every year, and used that money to pay for my first contract. I gave up a small inheritance for my second contract. I gave up my discretionary income for my third contract. And I gave up all hope of paying off my bills when I signed for another add-on. So now I am dead broke, and I feel like the richest person in the world!

We gave up extravagant dinners out and designer clothes... Well for the most part anyway. We also still do not have our landscaping on our new home complete yet, but that's okay because our taxes are not going to increase too dramatically right away. So we do a little landcaping at a time and will probably have it all done about the same time our disney loan is paid for and we will not have to worry about paying for vacation accommodations for the next 38 years. So for us, it was a no-brainer. Family Memories last a whole lot longer than flowers and are much more valuable to us!!
