DVC Hurricane Policy?

Does DVC have a rule about hurricanes? For example, if you cancel a reservation less than 30 days ahead, but there is a hurricane warning for the Orlando area, do your points still go into Holding?

Asking for a friend. (I just got home on Monday, so I was lucky with my timing.)

DVC's Hurricane Policy:

From June 1st to November 30th, in the event a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area, Vero Beach area, Hilton Head Island, Oahu or for the Member's place of residence within 7 days before the scheduled arrival date, the Member may call Member Services prior to check-in to cancel or reschedule, based upon availability, their Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation without any cancellation or modification penalty.

Note: This policy pertains to hurricane warnings only. Other weather advisory levels are handled on a case by case basis and Members should contact Member Services.

ANSWERS

When does this temporary policy become effective?
The temporary policy is effective in the event a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center no more than 7 days before your scheduled arrival date for the Orlando area, Vero Beach area, Hilton Head Island, Oahu or for the Member's place of residence.

What can I do if a hurricane warning is issued?
If a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area, Vero Beach area, Hilton Head Island, Oahu or for the Member's place of residence no more than 7 days before your scheduled arrival date, you may call Member Services in advance to modify, based on availability, or cancel your Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation without any cancellation or modification penalty.

If you are to be staying on a Member Getaway and a hurricane warning is issued for that destination, please contact Member Services.

Will I be responsible for any cancellation or modification penalties or other amounts?
If you have products and services provided by third party suppliers that were not obtained through Member Services, such as airlines, hotels, car rental agencies or vacation insurance companies, you will continue to be responsible for any non-refundable payments, as well as cancellation penalties or change fees assessed by those suppliers. The policy does not apply to certain special events or dining experiences (e.g. Member cruise).

What if I prefer to reschedule my vacation to a different date because of a hurricane warning? Will I be able to get my same accommodations?
If you are scheduled to arrive within seven (7) days of the hurricane warning, you may call Member Services prior to check-in to reschedule, based upon availability, without penalty. We cannot guarantee availability of similar accommodations for the new travel dates. The policy does not apply to certain special events and dining experiences.

yep, been on hold since they opened and still waiting good luck getting a cm to talk to. my cruise was cancelled last night so trying to cancel room this am

My parents canceled their upcoming trip, no penalties. Not sure how long they were on the phone, but outside of that didn't have any issues.

I canceled our trip Sept. 7-11 this morning. They put all points back where they came from and no penalties. The worst part was listening to the cheery Disney music while on hold to finalize the cancellation.

Canceling Your Reservation

If you must cancel your reservation due to Hurricane Irma, all Vacation Points and Reservation Points will be returned to the Membership in the way they were utilized for the reservation.

If you used Vacation Points to make reservations at a Disney Vacation Club Resort, then your reservation can be canceled online. Once canceled, please email member service to have your Vacation Points removed from the holding account. Be sure to include the following information in your email

• Your name
• Reservation number
• Description of your request

Member Services will make the necessary adjustments within 4 weeks. For all other types of reservations, please call Member Services at *** *** ****. You must be at least 18 years of age to call.

Extending Your Reservation
If you are already at a Disney Vacation Club Resort and wish to extend your reservation, please visit the Resort front desk to check availability. You may be able to extend your stay, based on availability.

Refunds for Early Checkout or Resort Evacuation
If you are already at a Disney Vacation Club Resort and wish to check out early due to Hurricane Irma, please visit the Resort front desk to check out and request a refund. The following refund policy will apply:

• For Cash Reservations: The front desk will refund any nights not used.
• For Vacation Points and Reservation Points: The Resort will communicate with Member Services to return Vacation Points and Reservation Points to the Membership in the way they were utilized for the reservation.

In the event of a Resort evacuation, the same refund policy will apply. Be sure to check with the front desk to check out and request your refund."

Just returned from BCV late last night. Front desk made a call and booked me 5 more nights on points in case we got stuck. Luckily didn't need them. Called MS this morning and cancelled. Hold time was about 15 minutes. No issues at all; very accommodating.
