My DH and I decided this weekend if we could get the room we would head to HHI for a weekend in June and check out the Disney resort there. So I called MS today and they had a studio, I almost passed out. They had Friday, saturday and we are wait listed for Sunday. I thought there would be NO WAY to get a room this close in.

Anyway, I am wondering is there enough to do and enough places to eat if we don't want to leave the resort? My DD is 6 and my DS in 3 1/2.

Any advice? I would love some input, I have never been there.

Nevermind, I found a HH thread on the other DVC board here, I am so confused, what is the difference between these two boards?!?!

You won't find many food options available at the resort. They have some selections in the merchantile...bread, cheese, PB&J, snacks, and some frozen items. At "Tide Me Over" you'll find your standard fast food options for breakfast and lunch. When I was there last May, the hours were 8:00-4:00, so this is not an option for dinner. There are several places within walking/driving distance, however.

Not to burst your bubble, but the Friday and Saturday nights are usually pretty easy to get at DHHIR because of the high point structure. Now, if your waitlist clears for Sunday night, you'll know that you really have had a dose of pixie dust!!! :wizard:

As far as eating on site, other than Tide Me Over (which closes at 4pm, as previously mentioned) there are places that will deliver (mostly pizza places and the like), and there are several restaurants within an easy walking distance. (Just over the bridge in Shelter Cove.) You can also make a grocery stop and have dinner in your room -- even in a studio. (Frozen lasagna, a bag of salad, and a loaf of Italian bread, for example.) For some reason, I don't mind cooking at Hilton Head -- that relaxed atmosphere, I guess!

Enjoy your trip and good luck with your waitlist!!

Pop!!! That was my bubble :) IT is really high point value on the weekends in HH, that is why we are going with the studio. I hope our wait list comes through for Sunday night, we will still go, just make it a shorter trip, I guess. Do you think I should try to get a cash ressie for Sunday night???? Would we have to switch rooms???

By all means, try for a cash reservation. You never know! And if your waitlist for points clears, you can always cancel the cash room! If you book a studio, just ask MS or CRO (whomever you book through) to link the two reservations. Should be no problem.

Don't worry about there not being any restaurants at the resort. the ones across the marina is an easy walk. There is a deli, seafood, Italian, and mexican with in easy reach. If you rent a bike, you have a few more options like a diner, pizza, and pirate golf. If you are driving, then it is not hard to go out to dinner. There are many early bird menus on the island.

I wish we were going to be there the same time... My daughter is 5. She is always looking for someone to play with....
We are going down May 22... Like everyone else said about the points being high for Friday and Saturday stays --- we are doing the Sun-Thurs... checking out on Friday....
I am actually trying to look up restaurants now!...
Have a great trip.

Tanya,

Have a great trip, I will be expecting a post when you return with some tips!!! Too bad our daughters won't be able to play, but being a Disney property, I am sure there is NO shortage of children :goodvibes .

:wizard: Pixie dust for beautiful weather when you arrive.

Hey Kathleen...

I will try my best to put up a post regarding HH....I don't know if we are going to be doing much... My husband likes to play golf but for some reason I think he just wants to veg out this vacation.... My parents are supposed to come too but my mom said she might have to cancel on us and I already bought them airline tickets and we have a 2 bedroom! Oh well....

Have fun on your trip too and I wish you beautiful weather...! I hope we definitely have it for our trip...

There is a really nice pizza place/casual italian restaurant in Shelter Cove (Giuseppis). You need to leave the resort, but just barely! They offer DVC discount so be sure to ask for it.

We also liked to grab lunch at Signals (the restaurant at the beach house). They had a great Philly cheesesteak!

Your kids will likely enjoy the activities--looking at my activity sheet from last year you may find--B'Lou Crabbe activities (Music of the Low country, magic show, Shadows Tales, Funny Bunny Hunt, Family Treasure Hunt), Campfire, Sweet Goodnights (bedtime stories with milk and cookies), Gyotaku t-shirt painting, Goofy Bingo--you get the idea!

Have a great trip! Our DD 9, actually likes DVC Hliton Head better than WDW!!
She consistently refers to DVC HH as 'my favorite place in the world'.

Hey, it's a LOT less expensive than WDW ;)
