Hi All!

We will be heading to HH in June. Can you please tell us about the Shrimp Boil? What’s on the menu, worth the cost, etc? My wife and kids are not big seafood eaters, other then fish for the kids. Do they have a variety of items offered, including non-seafood items?

Thanks
Scott

Scott,
Last time we were there when they had the shrimp boil I believe they set up across form the main lodge in the tree/garden area. My family, unfortunately is not big on seafood so we did not try it. I believe they had corn on the cob, shrimp(of course), beans, a few other sides and some kind of dessert.
The menu changes slightly due to the season.

I'm really looking forward to the Shrimp Boil in August. DW and myself really love seafood and especially boiled shrimp.

When we went they had shrimp, pork roast, hush puppies, corn on the cob, potatoes..and I think some other kind of meat...and maybe another side? I can't recall.
My husband doesn't like that kind of shrimp and he had plenty to eat.
You will be satisfied even if you don't like seafood.

They had chocolate cream pie for dessert when we went.

We've been to the shrimp boil twice, and reading from the menu they had shrimp, red potatoes, smoked sausage, pork tenderloin (to die for), hush puppies & corn-on-the-cob. Also for the kids (and adults too!) there are chicken fingers & mac&cheese. Lemonade and iced tea to drink. It was held at Shadow's Point near the playground both times for us last summer.

When we were there last week they were setting up for it at the beach house.

Why would you be interested in going to a Shrimp Boil if you don't like seafood?
:confused3

Because the activities at Hilton Head are always a lot of fun!! The CMs there are great and the location at the beach house, with that view, is spectacular! :goodvibes

Is the Shrimp Boil a year-round thing, or just in the warmer months? During the time of the year they do have it, is it once per week, every day, or ... ?

I'm curious about this as well.

Just back from HHI and we did do the Shrimp Boil.

This is our third and last one. THe other two were held on the shuffle board area and was so much fun. The cm's were running it mostly and were wonderful esp with the kids. Beer was free at the time also. You sat at long picinic tables and had no choice but to meet people and we hung out well into the evening with two other families we meet. (we meet one family the following year also!)

This year it was held at the beach house, the staff that runs the snack bars...etc ran the boil. Very nice but not the same. You now just sat at small table with your family only and no acholic beverages included (not a big deal just telling the differences)

All the other times all the foods were separate. THis time the shrimp, potatoes, corn and saugage was all together and everyone was picking out the shrimp. Long wait time for refulling the shrimp.

For the price $25 for 12 and over and $9 for kids I would rather go elsewhere. Only because I know what it used to be like.

Anyone going to HHI you have to try the SEA SHACK. Really down home southern cooking. All fish and seafood caught fresh each day! Great food great price! You will not get served with china...paper plates here. But the food is out of this world.

Last year we visited HH in June and October. They had the shrimp boil both times. It was just one night, Thursday 6 - 8pm. in June. And it was on Tuesday night 5:30 - 7:30 in October.

Is this the place Rachel Ray featured on $40 day?? We haven't been but it looked good on the show. Definately will try it in July.

Yes, this is one of the places featured on that show. It's very small, so try to go during an "off" hour or be prepared to wait. When we were there in April, we got there at about 2:15 on a Saturday afternoon (it closes at 3, before re-opening for dinner) and we got the last available table at that time!

Definitely not a fancy place, but we've never been disappointed with our choices there!

When we were at HHI in March, they had it at the beach house on Tuesday. Thanks for the info on the "Sea Shack". That's one I want to try sometime. My goal is to try all the resturaunts Rachel on the Food Network went to, 1 down (Hudson's)-3 to go!

Now I'm curious - can I get an address for Sea Schack? Also for Simba's Mom - I've been to Hudsons and loved it, but what are the other places on Rachel's list? Can you tell I love to eat out?

Thanks!

Kathy

I've seen that show several times-she went to Signe's for breakfast, had a stuffed french toast with berries (blackberries?), Sea Shack for lunch, I think she had fish with Caribbean Jerk spices, a margarita at Old Fort Pub, and dinner at Hudson's where she had an appetizer plate for dinner, I forget the name but it was a variety of several appetizers. We ate at Hudson's for lunch, anyone got any reports for dinner? We were at Old Fort Pub when it was closed (It's right next to some historic ruins), looks like it's a real nice place to eat.

We've been for dinner. It was good but the night we were there, we had poor service.

We decided to try it because our favorite dolphin cruise Captain Scott said it was his favorite place to dine on HH. We'll definately return again. :flower:

I don't have the address for Sea Shack, but it's off Pope Avenue, between Sea Pines Circle and Coligny Circle. It's tucked away in an industrial park behind the German restaurant! It's very easy to drive right past it, even if you do know it's there. (Wonder how I know THAT??? :rolleyes1 )

We eat at Hudson's at least once a year and enjoy it. We try to avoid it during the high season, though, because of the crowds.

We had dinner at Old Fort Pub once. Food and service were both great that night. We practically had to be rolled out of there! It's also one of Chef Gordon's recommended places to eat.
