Since we bought resale, I am not sure if the "guide" who sent us the info packet from Disney is really "our" guide. I liked him...he seemed nice, but I am concerned that others on this board have not been able to get their guides to take their $500 dep for add-ons and check everyday. So, what I would like to know is...who has successfully attained add-on points since DVC's new "no waitlist" policy...and, who is your guide?

Thanks so much for sharing this info!!!

Hi Beca,

Are you thinking of an add-on already? Is this how quickly DVCitis sets in? Don't let my husband know...we just passed ROFR and I don't want to scare him ;)

Good question about the guide though. How do you get a guide if you bought resale?

I passed papers on my resale on a Friday, booked my ressie on the following Wednesday, and added on two days later. My original guide Tom didn't work out for me.

I changed to Byron and YES he will check everyday! He got me my BCV. Still thinking of adding on more points in the fall:eek:

I definitely second that Byron checks every day. He just successfully got me 100 BWV points last week!

About the deposit, though, when I let him know I was interested in the BWV points, he took my credit card number but did not put a $500 charge through immediately. Once the points came through, he charged 20% to my Amex. When I bought my first two contacts, it was 10% on the CC but with this add-on it was 20%. It was no problem, less to pay off, but wanted you to be aware that the process was a little bit different.

excellent - no hard sale - she says DVC will sell it self - she ALWAYS returns phone call - if she is out of town - she and I think all the DVC sales staff has to do the cruises - so sometime she is not reach ability - then when you get to her phone messages it tells you -

Yes....I am already thinking of adding on!!! (My dh, on the other hand...knows nothing of my plans!!):o How sick and twisted am I?!!! A great BWV listing came up today...but, alas....we have no money!!! I was thinking of going thru DVC because we could add on slowly, and pay no closing costs...but, then I see these great listings and I just get all antsy!!! Who knows...I'm sure we'll add on...I don't think I will be happy until I have enough points that I can spend EVERYDAY of the year at WDW!!!

Thanks for all the advice!!!

My guide is Betty Prikryl. I called a week and a half ago to add on 25-35 BCV points. She took my credit card, and said she'd call everyday. However, she also said it could take a long time. She said OKW inventory is more plentiful, and there is also SSR. I have a December use year...

Thanks Lulu, I'm looking for June. Thought there might be some left.

Well Beca ... after looking over our options on the resale market for possibly adding to our 210 point BWV contract before the large price increase, I decided to contact our assigned DVC representative, Karen Guyder.

She took several days to return my voice message (they appear to be swamped with business right now), but when she did, I received informed responses to all of my questions. She first tried to sell SSR to us, but I politely explained that we were looking for the add-on to extend our stays at our home resort at the 11-month booking window. She called me back about 3 hours later with 65 available points in our December use year. That was just about what I was looking for, so I jumped on it -- putting the purchase on our Disney Visa. With our current double-point promotion from Bank One, putting the whole cost on the card has effectively reduced our cost from $84 down to $82.

DVC is surprisingly generous with add-on contracts. Karen informed me that we immediately get our 65 points for the 2003 use year (with plenty of time to bank them since we already have this year's trip planned out). Our dues for this year will be prorated, based on the time that our add-on closes (in 1-2 months), so we'll only have to pay for about 60% of the dues. Timed properly, buying small add-ons directly from Disney can very competitive with the prices on the resale market.

One last thing ... Karen told me that, at least initially, DVC would NOT be increasing the point price for the existing resorts on May 9th. They are going to let the point costs diverge, with SSR (and its 50-year contract) selling at a premium to the 38-year resorts.

Thanks so much for that reply!! It is very useful!!

JeffPort, when did you get those points? I had to wait about 7 weeks or so to get my 40 point add on (BWV, dec use year). When I got those, I called my guide to see if maybe there were more available. This was last tuesday and I still have not received a call back.

I left a message with Karen last Wednesday afternoon. She called me back Saturday morning (yesterday) just to answer my questions. When she found out that I wanted 50-100 points at BWV (December use year), she told me that she would keep an eye out for me. I got a call back from her about 3 hours later.

I think I had a combination of good luck and a helpful DVC guide. From these boards, I've noted that Karen has been at DVC for many years now.

Remember ... they've eliminated an official "wait list." Getting add-on points is now a matter of making your request at the right time or having a DVC rep that will check availability for you on a daily basis. It's not a very good system -- but it is what we all have to deal with for now.

We just got back today and added on yesterday. We had bought resale last summer and this was our first trip. I called my guide and spoke with him several times (Roland) about getting add on points at BWV, April UY. He kept telling me that there was nothing available and I would have to buy SSR. I set an appointment when I got there and when we finally met, I was clear with him and told him I wanted to keep my home resort and UY, otherwise I would not add on. He had started again with the SSR only thing, but when I made it clear I was out of there, he told me to hold on, then magically came back with 500 points. I took 50 of them @ $84, and I also finally got my Boardwalk Litho that I had heard about from members who bought direct from Disney. Of course he told me that I needed to buy all I could right away because after these 500 points were gone, he was definite that they would NEVER have any more. I laughed that last comment off, and left with my 50 points. BTW, I also toured the SSR models and the BCV models, both were great!!! When I asked my guide if there was going to be new points available at BWV once they move their offices to SSR and convert the space to Villas, he paused for a second and said...oh, that's where I got the 500 points from. Yeah Right!!!

Wow...no offense...but I DON'T think I will ask for Roland!!!

Thanks for sharing your story, though...and, congrats on getting the LAST BWV points EVER!!!!;)

Beca

Wow, what amazing stories!! Do you think it is harder for the guides to get add-on points for BCV, as opposed to BWV? Even if they check every day? Do you advise calling them often to check on how things are going?

Thanks,
nhw
