DVC Fraud Reservations

I called MS to make a reservation once and they said "well you have x points in your accout ..." I was surprised so I said that I thought I had x+y points in my account. They responded by saying "You did have that many before you transferred y points to Mr. so-and-so." Needless to say, I had never transferred points to anybody, and I didn't even know the person they mentioned, so after some discussion, they reversed the transaction, and I put a passcode on the account. I think I had to write a letter and have it signed by DH and I before they would add the passcode. At the time, MS said that it was probably a typo--someone had probably made a transfer to this individual, but they transposed numbers and it came out of my account instead of the other persons.

I still have my suspicions about whether or not someone was trying to steal points, but I'll never know. MS was helpful in straightening it out and I got a supervisor to help, but they were less than forthcoming about how this could have happened.

As far as identifying myself to MS, I don't believe I've ever been asked my whole ss#--just the last four digits, member # confirm address and phone.

DVC will ask for your name if you don't have your member # handy, but they'll also ask for a full address and the last 4 of your SSN to verify your identity. This is normally the case for me when I driving home from work and call......Never once have they asked for my full SSN....

Yes, you are probably right. It probably was always only the last 4 digits.

I spoke with MS this past Saturday to get my PIN numbers for the website and they asked for the last 4 digits of my SS#. When I called back yesterday because I had an issue with my PIN, they asked for my complete address instead of my SS#. It seems to be random depending on which CM you speak to at MS.

Wow, that would be scary! I can see how a mistake like that could be made though, when you are dealing with member numbers etc. It would be pretty easy for a CM to transpose a number in a transaction and have it come out wrong, but that could have been a costly mistake had you not caught it! The new tracking on the website should eliminate those issues too.

The Social Security number is a nine-digit number in the format "111-11-1111." The number is divided into three parts.
