So we left for a day of fun with our new magic bands. I thought it was great not to have to carry my wallet around everywhere. After all, my magic band was my room key, charge card, and park tickets. What I did not realize is that it was not my ID. At countless locations I asked for the DVC discount and was told that it was available. I did carry my membership card with me. But everyone was very strict in asking for my ID. They would not honor my DVC discount without my drivers license. It was an expensive lesson. I am now carrying my wallet.

There have been several threads on this topic since MagicBands started being used at the DVC Resorts. The requirement to show photo ID along with proof of discount applies to any applicable discount: AP, DVC, TiW, etc.

I agree. You still have to carry a picture ID if you want a discount. We just got back a few weeks ago and as always I was asked for an ID any time I wanted the dvc discount. Plus I was asked for a picture ID when using my TIW discount too. (Not everywhere but a few places esp viaNapoli twice)

I ran into that the first week of Feb. I thought it Kind of defeated the idea of the Magic band. After I went to the waterpark I wrote to them and suggested that if they are going to insist I still carry my DVC card they should at least make it waterproof like my drivers licence. My DVC card seperated after it got wet.

My Park hopper is not transferable and yet I don't have to carry ID with me to use that on a Magic band.

With all the information on the magic bands and the security of the PIN there is no reason they can't identify us as DVC members on the Magic Bands.

You should always have ID with you. If you lost your magic band or it stopped working, the first thing they will ask you for is ID. For DVC or AP, they want to be sure you didn't hand your magic band to someone else to get the discount.

You have to realize that the band only takes the place of the card. You still needed ID with the card. The percentage of people at the park that are APs or DVC is low. As said previous without ID I could give my band to someone else for all the discounts and catch up with them later. I don't see this as an issue or a hassle, just glad to get a discount at all.

With the introduction of the MBs, there's no reason they can't link discounts to which you are entitled to the MB. They could require a finger scan for verification, if they so desired.

You're correct. But that would assume Disney wants to make it easy for you to receive your discount. I disagree with that premise.

Disney has said to the shareholders that the purpose of the magic band/ nextgen rollout is to manage high crowds better by pushing people more toward the non-E ticket attractions, and to increase visitor hourly spending. I totally agree they could easily link the discounts into the band/MDE system, but I don't think that goal is within the business model.

The ticket has the "ID" of the finger scan.

Without ID (or a scan), well I think DH will just hand his card over to my cousin's husband to get the discounts. Or maybe I'll use his band...I'm the associate, and without him there I'm not supposed to get the DVC discounts. But if they don't require any sort of identification, all sorts of ineligible people could use it.

Makes sense.

I agree that DVC ID cards are not waterproof. I've seen some that went swimming and didn't look so great afterward! :rotfl: But if you ever need a replacement Mbr ID, all the sales centers can print you a new one IF, and ONLY if you have a photo ID. This would include the one at SSR, Kidani, BLT & Bwalk. I do not believe that the Sales Office at VGF has a card printer yet. The other offices are open from about 8am - 4pm as a rule. And of course, they could choose to close any locations as needed.

:offtopic: Sorry to go a little sideways with this thread .... My brother is letting us stay 2 nights with his DVC points. I, therefore, don't have a DVC membership card. What discounts are there, and am I able to get the discounts being that I'm "using" DVC? Or not, because I'm not the actual member?

Thanks!
