This is according to my Vacation Magic Email Update that I got today. Here's what it said:

In related news, Members Services now books Members' Disney Cruise Line voyages as far as 24 months in advance, up from the previous 11 months.

This may have already been posted. If so, sorry!

I know a lot of you don't like to cruise on points but this will be nice for those of us that do! :thumbsup2

I'm happy for those of you who like to cruise.

However, I am now wondering how DVC is going to handle the "exchange" necessary to pay for that option. I sure hope they don't reduce the number of rooms available to members at the 11 month mark!

Best wishes -

I'm happy for us Points Cruisers but I, too, wonder how it is going to work out. Take for example, the specialty cruises. Are they now going to let everyone know 2 years in advance? We want to take the 2008 DVC members' cruise. When we cruise this September, will they know if they're going to have one and when?

While happy, I have a few ???? !

I was on the DVC member website a couple days ago and noticed my 2008 points were listed with this statement:

Total Vacation Points Available to Borrow is the total number of Vacation Points remaining from this Use Year that you can borrow for a Disney Cruise Line® vacation that will take place in the previous Use Year.

In general I believe the more options we have as members the better off we are. Booking 24 months in advance does have at least one benefit that would be important to us. Booking this far in advance improves my chance of getting a specific catagory or a specific cabin within that catagory. I can't think of another reason why I'd book a points cruise this early.

On the other hand - lots of things can happen in 24 months. Any changes to the initial reservation would add another fee. Then dealing with points from a cancelled reservation can become a nightmare especially when these cruises take so many points.

Although I do appreciate this change for us the negatives far outweigh the positives. So we'll continue to rent out some of our points to pay for our DCL cruises. If DVC members take advantage of this new booking window it wouldn't surprise me to see more posts on the Rent/Trade board 18 months from now offering reservation points due to a cancelled DCL points reservations.

I tried to book a cruise for Feb 2008 but MS wouldn't me because the point charts for 2008 were not out yet. They said we could book 48 months in advance but ONLY if the point charts were out, which they aren't. Doesn't make too much sense to me to make something available but unavailable at the same time...

I called today trying to book Jan 2008 and was told the same thing. I had the same reaction as you, why advertise that you can book 24 months out when there's nothing set up for 2008 points yet :confused3 Oh well, I'll just keep checking.
