DVC coming to Caribbean Beach Resort?

Rumors of a moderate DVC has been around for awhile, usually sight/survey balloons are seen flying during the planning stage. Will Caribbean Beach be the next DVC resort?

I've heard that rumour too.Personally I don't think so. With the way direct prices are going, I don't think they would look at a moderate level of DVC. I think the moderate rooms sell well because they are moderately priced, with some better amenities. DVC doesn't seem to care about marketing to moderate income people. When I bought my first Boardwalk contract by resale it was $87 per point. As soon as it closed I added on direct at $98 per point. Only an $11 difference. The prices now seem to just skyrocket and they don't seem to be hurting sales. Then they have put restrictions on new resale buyers so they don't get the same benefits of direct buyers. Seems to me they are aiming at higher income households. So I have to ask, why would they start a moderate level DVC. Who knows though.

Several months ago I read either here on DIS or on another board (can't remember where now) a similar discussion about feasibility of Disney building a free standing DVC (a deluxe, not a moderate) on that land. Seemed possible. But until an announcement is made and construction begins (yes, I remember other DVC projects that were announced but never built), I'm not expecting anything.

A new standalone with a new hotel would be cool. But I don't mind the idea of a moderate either. If they made it it less points a night to stay there then it might be something we can all benefit from if we choose. You could stay longer. Somebody questioned well if the moderate was cheaper per point to buy from Disney they resented them being able to score say the VGF at 7 months. I have no strong view on that but I wonder if they would introduce a new tier like a 5 month booking window...

I am one that thinks if it was at Caribbean Beach, it doesn't mean that the DVC resort would a moderate, nor that the points would be cheaper. It still could be a deluxe resort. But it would be missing the shared amenities that an attached Disney deluxe resort would give the DVC resort.

If it was a moderate DVC, the points from the moderate resort could not have the same value as deluxe DVC resorts IMO. Otherwise, people would only buy into that resort to use the points at a more expensive DVC deluxe resort.

And if it is across the street from CBR, it could have a direct entrance into DHS. We talked about this one weeks ago, didn't we?

But they still could charge the same point price, yet have the rooms be fewer points.
That would make it fair for "CBV" owners to get other resorts and vice versa.

And AKV value is already sometimes 9.

CBR DVC as a moderate will have to have 7-8 point studios.

I'm saying it wouldn't work for DVC. They'd need to average less than 9 points per night for studio to come in under their current deluxe lowest price at AKV value.

At 7-8 points a night that's 70 points or less for a week. How do they sell 150 point contracts like that?

Trying to sell 4 million points 70 points at a time sounds like a disaster.

And what do you do with 50,000 new owners with 70 points? They can't effectively trade out so 7 month booking is only a theoretical option.

So. They're all booking CBR while 500,000 other DVC owners are trying to save points by getting into CBR at 7 months.

There's too much mismatch to the current system to charge the same price per point but fewer points per night. It doesn't fit with CBR owners - who own fewer points - booking out, and it doesn't fit with DVC point hogs trying to save points by booking in.

It would be a disaster. The 7 month booking window has to be a practical option, on both sides of the equation. It wouldn't be if DVC created 8 pts/night studios.

No. If they build it, it'll be a deluxe with deluxe buy in pricing and deluxe points per night.

While if built on moderate property, all they have to do is add some deluxe elements to the DVC building to make it a draw. Club level rooms, TOTWL, VIP shuttle to the parks or private entrance to DHS.

To me, it's not a coincidence that they're looking to build a DVC near the new entrance of DHS.

The point isn't to add a moderate.

The point is to build a DVC - deluxe and all - near park resort at DHS' new front door.

There are all sorts of ways to take advantage of the proximity to "up charge" the DVC element at CBR to deluxe. My personal favorite is Star Wars themed:

Disney's Jakku Spaceport and Villages (JSV).

They could build it with the facade of a star destroyer half buried in the dirt.

Anybody think that'd be moderately priced?

Nothing like a deluxe timeshare resort themed as an impoverished desert wasteland.

Really, Star Wars is probably too specific of a theme for a resort. It would have to have a more broad appeal.

Even that would be an acceptable upgrade for the universe of energy. But, I digress.

It does make sense to add a DVC property along with the DHS updates. We'll find out the master plan in due time.
