Funny aside for those who hate Joffrey's. Personally I don't mind them - they're not the World's best, but compared to what Disney had before them, they're like royalty. Joffrey's signed on as official supplier in 2013, and had been around as specialty supplier from the mid-90s. But before that, Disney's coffee was supplied by Nescafe. The same instant coffee famous from WWII. It was awful. I literally could not drink coffee when I went to Disney unless it was one of the few restaurants that did their own bean...everything else throughout the parks and resorts was Nescafe instant.

It's that memory of the horrible Nescafe instant coffee that makes be avoid Nespresso - just the name itself is too close, even though the Nespresso machines use real ground coffee...I am thinking about instant coffee whenever I see the 'Nes' in the name.

To be fair, the "second wave of coffee culture" - mostly attributed to the expansion of Starbucks - started in the late '80's/early '90's (I stole that from Wikipedia). Before that, most people didn't know the difference between Nescafe/Folgers and anything else.

Cafe culture was alive and well in Berkeley long before that. Peet's dates back to the mid-60s.

Maybe in Berkley. I'm from Washington state, aka the origin of Starbucks, and I don't remember even considering coffee as anything that could ever be fancy until the early '90's. I would wager that Florida took even longer.

Florida had some spots that actually had a coffee culture - specifically Miami and Tampa, which had large Cuban populations. Cuban coffee is a big deal and specialty coffees were a thing in these spots going back into the 60s.

BTW - Joffrey's actually started as a local roaster in Tampa in 1985, long before they got the Disney contract.

I'm not enamored with the coffee options in the park. I'm usually a black drip drinker so I'll usually make some in the room. I'm considering bringing some Peets kpods to VDH next time (Since Peets is now part of Keurig).

The French Press pot in Trattoria al Forno is pretty good.

Agree! My BIL makes a fantastic pot of good old Maxwell House. Tastes better than a lot of coffee shop specialty coffees. Never seems to taste the same when I've tried to make it.

He probably has it down perfect for amount of his Maxwell house and he repeats it.

Temp is a huge deal in making coffee but normal coffee makers will have a large variance without a PID.

I have a pretty good setup at home and like a few others grind my own beans from a local roaster. We have both an espresso grinder and a grinder for other drinks.

I even have a chart as I dial in certain beans.

However, when I travel to wdw I am not picky. I like coffee, I drink it mostly without sweeteners or creams. The best coffee in my opinion is the French Press at Trattoria. But, I'll drink whatever.

I suppose if I cared enough I'd keep in the DVC locker a French Press and a Baratza Encore grinder which I'd do a coarse grind for the press and bring fresh beans from home.

But that's too much effort for me personally.

Breakfast for sure. I would imagine they could do at other times but I know breakfast as I had it twice this week

Speaking of Nescafe,,,that is what they use prob 90% of the time in Greece for the frappas that you have on the beach. Sleave of coffee, sugar, and whipped, side bottle of water to add to as you drink. I must say it is tasty .

Sounds like a marketing ploy, loosely translated as "Instant Coffee for Dudes."

However, i will confess to using Starbucks Via singles when I travel to a place that just does not understand coffee. China is one good example. I will even use them at home in a very desperate pinch.

Sounds good to me. I use Nespresso at home. The first time I had Nespresso espresso was staying club level at the Disneyland hotel. It was so good that I had to get my own machine. The machines are junky now, though. They last about a year whereas my first one was solid for at least 3 years.

I wouldn't care if the DVCs used Keurig or Nespresso...but I would be upset if the 1-bd and up villas only came with the single serve machines and cut out the dual pod/carafe machines. I don't use the pods so I always want a drip option. With Keurig I know they make dual machines - not sure about Nespresso. So they better have a dual machine or add a drip machine alongside the Nespresso if they want to switch over.

Whaaattt I have yet to see one. I would be very happy for this if it’s pods.

Yeah you are right Kcups are just as easy. I have a hard time finding good coffee in kcup variety. But they also make the fillable ones, I’m just a tad lazy.

That would be awesome. I never use the Keurigs but I would definitiely use a Nepresso machine at the resorts.
