DVC changes guides

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Has anyone gotten a new guide assigned to them not because your original guide left but because your original guide did not call you enough? We bought in 1994 and have had the same guide all along. I got a call from DVC from a new guide and I asked why she was calling on me. What happen to my original guide did he leave? What she said to me was that DVC monitors the # of phone calls the guides makes to their members that bought through them and if there isn't enough contact after buying they assign a new guide. I called my original guide and asked him and he said he wasn't aware of this but he would contact his boss and get me moved back to him.

Has anyone else had this happen? I guess we can expect to be called more often by sales guides now?

Just curious

Thanks

It wouldn't surprise me if they're trying to drum up business by having guides call their customers.

But they wouldn't call me more than once, I detest being pestered by telemarketing calls. One of the things I like about DVC is that they don't do that. I would (politely) ask them to refrain from calling me again. If I want to add on, I know where to find them. :sad2:

We've owned for 10 years. Bought from Humberto Santos (great guy) and never heard from him again.

Not that we mind. I'm like previous poster; I'd rather not be bothered. I know how to call them if I need an add-on.

I have not heard from my guide for some time. The last time she called was to tell me of the upcoming BLT and that was it. I like it like that and hope it stays that way.

We just got back from WDW last night. This is the first trip that our guide, Bernard, did not call and leave us a "Welcome Home" message. I suppose it could be that he was on vacation himself or I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that we bought our last 2 contracts from The Timeshare Store? :confused3

I've been a member for over 11 years and never got a "welcome home" call. I could count on one hand the number of times I've talked to a guide in those 11 years. I'm on my third one - my original one left and recently my next guide "retired". I'm glad they don't call me, I'm not interested in an add-on and that's probably the real reason they would call.

I have been a DVC member for over 10 years.

I have never received a call from my guide.

I don't know why a DVC guide would call me, or what information they could pass along to me.

If other talk with their guides, I would be interested to know what they talk about.

Yes people do talk with their guides. In our case we bought way back in 1992 and our original guide retired two years after we bought. He was one of the Disney execs that helped get DVC started. The guide we got to replace him was the guide we developed a friendship with. The only business transaction we did with her was the OKW contract extension. It turned out that my birthday was the same as her husbands so she would call to say Happy Birthday each year. She would also call to say Hi on our trips. Disney would alert the guides when anyone assigned to them made reservations. We would get an email from her before each trip and a call when we were there. We traded stories about our families and children as the years progressed. She has recently retired after many years of helping people enjoy DVC. I think the long time guides worked with people differently than the new guides seem to. The club has grown so much that the personal service levels have changed due to each guide having so many assigned customers now. I am curious to see what our new guide will be like. We have not heard from anyone yet. Just closed on a resale contract, so no guide will be needed now.

This brings up an interesting question. When you buy resale I understand that you would not have a DVC guide, but once you are in the system, does DVC make more of an effort to contact you with incentives to add-on through them directly?

As soon as your resale contract is processed and your member account set up, you are given a Guide.

The Guide is a DVC salesperson and nothing more. Some use the DVC marketing tools and call you with a hello if you are at WDW. Some may call and acknowledge your resale purchase, others will qualify you to determine if you are a direct sales prospect. A lot depends on the Guides Manager and what they expect from the Guide.

We've purchased 4 contracts directly from Disney and the last 2 from The TimeShare Store. We have not been contacted from our guide since the purchase from TTS. Our guide does not call us at home and offer us more points etc but he used to call and leave a "Welcome Home" message on our phone when we were there. We do, however, receive mail solicitations from him from time to time.

The only time I've heard from our guide was this past January. We were on a 3 week trip to Disney and he called and left a message for us on our room phone letting us know if there was anything he could do for us to just give him a call. It seemed very weird.

We haven't heard from him at all prior to or since then.

We had the sweetest guide and he retired last year Kim. We did purchase our SSR from him but not the BWV that we got from the Timeshare Store. He never treated us any different after we bought a resale and was so sweet to our kids too. He was very low key and no pressure but we really enjoyed talking to him and are sad he is gone. I do not care for our new appointment he is pushy and not very personable just wants to make a sale at any cost not interested in our experiance.

Right now Disney has a telemarketing company calling existing members and if you have interest they transfer you to your guide if he is on duty or to another guide. They called us back in February... I suspect this is what was going on and that particular telemarketer was being creative. If you like your guide then i would also call on Monday and ask to be switched back. This is probably easier then having the guide talk to his manager plus you can express your unhappiness about this policy if it is true.

My original guide retired and I was given a new one. I occasionally got a voice mail from my origianal guide at our room when staying with DVC.

I called my new guide once when I had a problem with Member Services and she was great at doing what she could to help resolve the situation.

So, based on this experience, having a guide was a big help.
