DVC Car Stickers

Hmmmm. The person selling them is an eBay member as of TODAY (8/31). Their username is "mommytochris". Wondering if someone read this thread and decided to make some money....

I agree with Disney Doll, what is up with the lack of DVC merchandise?? There is a large market for people who want DVC items, just look at how many people go after nla items up on ebay. As soon as we goto a DVC resort I head for the shop in hopes of finding some neat stuff but it is the same every time. They can come up with really great WDW stuff, why can't they do it for DVC too? I wish they would go back to the colorful embroidered hats, shirts, etc. These drabby navy with tan screen print and tan with navy screen print have got to go!! Some beach towels would be nice too. Lets see we have requests for nice car decals, car magnets, nicer clothes, beach towels, anybody got anything else they would like. Maybe we can send them a request list. I will say they did good on the watches. While we are at it how about one of those big mickey figures with the dvc logo? Would be nice if they put an online shop up on the dvc website too.

I would think both Disney and DVC would have a problem with these auctions due to copyright infringement.

As long as they don't say DISNEY, they can probably do this. DVC and WDW could mean anything, even though we know what they mean !! You can order these cheaper ($4.95) on makestickers.com, their shipping is free too!

Yes, but the "Saratoga Springs Resort" underneath the "DVC" clears up any confusion....

I fully expect that "DVC" is somehow, somewhere registered by the Walt Disney Co. as a trademark. I'm sure the Disney folks would be very interested in this auction. It's always nice to get merchandise at the cut-rate price of "FREE".

Which makes me think the seller plans to order a bunch from makestickers.com once they see how many they sell on ebay. Wouldn't they be surprised if makestickers.com refused due to copyright infringement? ;)

E-Bay is full of Disney stuff. They even have a whole section on it. I am sure E-Bay would not allow this stuff to be on their site if there were legal issues. I have been buying WDW and Disney Cruise Line stuff from E-Bay for several years now and have been buying DVC stuff for about 6 months..smjj

Yeah but ebay is now considered the black market of goods...saw a news special on it just on TV. Tiffany has an entire staff dedicated to finding the sellers of counterfeit merchandise. Actually I think they are currently in a lawsuit with ebay over it. Definitely don't go to buy a designer handbag on ebay I think like 80% of the bags are fake. There were even a few shows on people court about it.. LOL I know off topic but it reminded me of the new broagcast I just saw.

I'm sure that most, if not all, of what you bought was legally produced for the Disney company and the sale of it was not infringing on Disney copyright. In this case, it would appear that somebody is trying to profit by selling Disney named merchandise without that merchandise having been approved by Disney. That would appear to be copyright infringement. Ebay says they take seriously the potential for abuse of their system by those who wish to infringe upon copyright. There is an entire section regarding copyright and trademark infringement in the Ebay complaints section.

Ebay does not review each item placed up for bid -- I expect reviews of controversial items only come up when the controversy is caused. If Ebay does not believe copyright or trademarks have been violated, they will refer the product to the supposed holder of copyright for their judgement.

Disney does not take lightly those who break their copyrights. They had a lawyer in Toronto whose sole job was to seize Disney counterfeit merchandise from curbside T-shirt vendors.

If you punch DVC into google, all sorts of stuff pops up. No mention of Disney Vacation Club on the first page away ( I did not look further). On eBay, DVC brings up speakers. I'd say a sticker with just DVC on it is not a problem. Besides, this company has made DVC & WDW oval stickers for me without any question.::MickeyMo

Have you ever tried reporting an infringing item to ebay and have the auction successfully stopped? They don't respond very quickly.

Regarding eBay and illegal items, I recently read an article about a man who had put his US Presidential vote up for sale - apparently, this is illegal. What is on-topic is eBay's position:

"Hani Durzy, eBay spokesman, said the online auction service screens the 29 million listings for violations of its policies, but because 3.5 million are added daily, it relies on outside help to catch inappropriate listings. "

I feel certain that if someone pointed out to eBay that there are auctions for unlicensed Disney trademark items, they would be gone soonest.

Actually, it would have to be someone from Disney who brought it to ebay's attention since they hold the copyright on such symbols.

I have reported many auctions (non-Disney) to ebay which violate their policies and they have actually acted on less than 5% of them.

Boy this thread has taken on a life of its own. Having seen the item in question on E-Bay and passed on it I am trying to figure out how the leap was made that this is a non-endorsed Disney item? Who is to say this person is breaking the law?? The person selling the item makes no mention of using a company to print these items, another posted mentioned this compamy and it took off from there. As a person who goes to E-Bay almost daily to bid on Disney items and has been for several years now, this stuff is mostly pins, a few shirts, hats and the such. I know Disney has an army of attorneys and if a item was not a true Disney item I am sure they would contact E-Bay. If they had a legal issues with E-Bay selling Disney merchandise, I am sure they would have addressed this issue long ago. Is every item on E-Bay legal, I don't know but this is a giant leap to assume this person is breaking the law. Go Back and re-read this thread from top to bottom and see how it has morped into this get them thread...smjj

Well, of course, it's not illegal to sell disney items on ebay, I don't think anyone is questioning THAT. I don't see the word DISNEY on these stickers, so that may be ok for them to do this. Is it ok to use Saratoga Springs Resort? who knows. If you read the ebay rules, anyone can sell
disney's product, but to make your own product, is that ok? Brings up a good question. Regardless, i don't see these selling all that well. Should be interesting.

did you play with the template on makestickers.com?
its looks really cool ... with a big DVC in the middle and your resort along the bottom
i didnt order ... yet

Looks like "mommytochris" must have been reading this thread (not that i'm surprised), he/she took off the resort name on her most recent listing and it only shows DVC now and he/she also lowered the price to a more reasonable (comparable to makestickers.com) price of $4.00.

When we attended the member update a few weeks ago, we were given what I believe is a DVC window cling...

Wow...when I replied that I had seen those car stickers on EBay, I didn't think about the question of whether the seller was violating any licensing rules or not...I wouldn't want to support such a thing...sorry.

I would love to see a DVC-operated on-line store were we could all choose from a wide variety of DVC merchandise, including car stickers. For any merchandising experts out there, with 80,000+? members, are we a big enough target group for such an on-line store?
