First time I am posting so hello to all! We were at DW for a week in May. Kids loved it. Before we left I requested DVC information and it arrived the day we left. We enjoyed the trip and just finally got a pull back offer from our original stay. Now the other day in the mail I got a DVC offer to stay at Copper Creek for 5 nights and 6 days for $2k flat rate in a 1 bed villa available through Christmas. For those DVC members is it worth coming back to see what it is about. We are from Illinois and try to take at least 2 vacations a year. Disney was a big one due to the cost overall. I dont know if we would come every year but see that banking points is a good option to. Should I take the offer and sit through the time share presentation and enjoy the room for 5 nights? OR should we pass and rent points at a later time?

You need to sit down and do the numbers. If offers and the idea of "being in a club" causes you to spend more money or causes you to be forced into vacations that you don't really want then is it really a good deal?

I reread my earlier statement and it was completely wrong...lol. I apologize for my lack of attention...

DVC is great even EOY if you are able to plan your vacation in advance and like to stay deluxe when you travel to WDW. Only you can decide if prepaying for your stays is worth it to you as that is what DVC is. Resale or direct is another choice to look at before you buy. Just do your homework and make decisions based on your family and you should be fine. Good luck :)

If you can afford the extra vacation and want to do it, that sounds like an awesome deal on a 1BR. It's a great resort at Christmas. I would actually call and ask if I could add a couple of days at the same price per night. As far as purchasing direct, I would say no for now if I were you. If you want DVC look for a medium sized (200pt) resale contract to start.

We bought via resale a few years ago and have really enjoyed our vacations.

That is a really good rate. The room would normally be closer to $2400 if you rented points from a 3rd party -- and if you booked thru Disney it would probably run about $3500 or more for 5 nights.

The only thing I will warn you about, is if you do go on the trip, you better be prepared to sign up for DVC b/c you're likely going to fall in love.

If you can do it, I likely would but with the up front decision not to buy on that trip and to investigate resale before you make a decision. For DVC to make sense, one needs to value on property stays, go to Disney resorts at least every 2 years or so, ONLY use the points for DVC resort options and be able to afford it (to me this is pay cash). NO ONE should buy who doesn't meet those qualifications IMO. IF DVC makes sense, then see if resale isn't a better choice to buy, it is for about 99.9% of new buyers.

I dont know if I would even want to do DVC. The more I read into it the more it seems like a hassle at times. The cost is what scares me and if I would want to keep going back every year or 2 to Disney. Kids are only 7 and 8 right now so a ton of time with them. Trying to convince the wife to use the 5 days as our 10 yr anniversary trip! would be nice to go alone and not have to rush to do rides. She doesn't seem to keen on the idea. LOL. If you buy a small amount of points are you able to buy extra points off of resale and still keep all of the actual DVC perks?

If you purchase direct, you qualify for member benefits. Adding a resale contract doesn't change that. However, I would purchase the majority of my points via resale and then add a small direct contract if I was going the resale+direct route.

In almost every case it makes sense to buy resale first then the retail add on second. That assumes buying at all is reasonable.

If you are unsure about buying in to DVC, spend some time reading all of the information about DVC that is posted in the resources section. It will give you a good background and understanding. Then if interested, taking them up on the offer is a good chance to try it out.
Unless you want one of the newer resorts, resale is often the better option, much cheaper. But, you will lose some of the perks by going this route.
Do your research before leaping. It saves a lot worry later.
