I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place for this; I did see that the 'for rent' board was NOT the right place... :)

I have never done a Disney trip before by renting DVC points from a member, but it looks like an attractive way to check out some new lodgings at WDW. I've just started checking this out, and was wondering how the process works. I am planning a visit in late September, and was happy to see the free dining promotion Disney is offering through that part of the year.

My question is whether that is something that would be offered or included in a DVC reservation, or is the DVC reservation process strictly room-only?

Feel free to respond in-thread, or via PM. Thanks much in advance!

Bookings on points are not eligible for the dining promotion---only bookings at rack rate rented from Disney.

As the previous poster said, no free dining for DVC reservations. You can add the dining plans at normal price. Arragements for the plans must be made through the member from whom you are renting, as well as and Magical Express airport transportation. You will pay for any dining plan when you check into the resort. Arrangement to add/cancel any dining plan must be made by the member at least 72 hours before you check.

It's not strictly room-only as you can add the dining plan; however, you cannot add the dining plan for free - you must pay for it if staying on points. As Brian said, the only way to get free dining is to book a room for cash and pay rack rates.

Just to clarify for the newbie OP -- there are actually three types of DVC reservations.

DVC reservations made through Disney directly for cash. These reservations would qualify for free dining if you met the other requirements, but would be very expensive. Certainly not a money-saving "free" dining!

Regular DVC points reservations. These are the reservations owners make with our points. No "free" dining with these reservations, but we can purchase DDP at the regular prices without buying mandatory park tickets.

Rented DVC reservations. This is what you are talking about, and it is not a transaction with Disney at all. You are making an agreement with an individual DVC owner, and the entire transaction is between you and them. They make a reservation for you with their points, and then rent that reservation to you. Same DDP deal as a regular points reservation -- you have to pay for DDP. Because you don't control the reservation, any DDP or DME arrangements would have to be made by the owner you rent from. You would pay for DDP at checkin.

The free dining is available only with a rack rate room plus tickets package reservation made through Walt Disney Travel Company. It cannot be booked with a DVC points reservation (rented or member) or any other type of reservation.
