DVC begins charging closing costs for add-ons

We are looking at doing an add-on and we were told about the closing costs. Doesnt make me happy but i feel with all the changes that have been happening lately i hate to say this seems to be the beginning of more changes to come. I just hope those changes are to bad to make me rethink my dvc purchase.

Well, we just added on 100 points at Animal Kingdom in July. (Before resale news and add-on news) We were on the cruise and there was a good deal for direct add on. I think we are done, unless we find a small point Hilton Head contract at a good price which we will certaintly buy resale if we find it. We have been members since 2002 and it appears to me that the value for the money for DVC is decreasing every year. It began with adding the $95 fee to switch to a Disney hotel, the cruise or adventures by Disney. Continued with the overbuilding of certain resorts, further continued with the restriction on use for resale contracts, and now continues with charging closing costs on add-ons. The next thing will probably be restriction to home resort. While I am very happy with out 305 points (but only 80 at hilton Head:rotfl2:), I just can't see much value to having any more than that.

Starting to look like just another timeshare to me. While I used to reccomend Disney to friends (two co-workers have DVC memberships), I just can't see myself doing that in the future given that I have great uncertainty of whether the value will be there in the future.

To me, the true value has always been staying at the DVC resorts -- not trading out or the other options. Always seemed like a lot of points for those options. Given that perspective, the resale changes didn't matter to me -- now, with Disney charging closing costs for add-ons, one of the few advantages of direct purchases is gone. They just added several $ per point to a 100 pt add-on -- to a price that is thousands of $$ more already.

I'll go resale for my next add-on ---- if there ever is one. 385 points seems like more to me than it did a year or so ago.

For me, the biggest change is the feeling that DVC is about to become just another timeshare...will not add-on anymore even if "GFV" happens and will sell down points over the next 12-18 months.

I think they should do management change...DVC has been successful for offering a different timeshare experience not just another generic money grab...

This might be a daft question - but does the introduction of the fee to add ons mean there will no longer be a 25 point minimum purchase?

The reason I ask is because I added on at Christmas to my AKV points and I asked if I could add on 10-15 points at BLT at the same time (I had thought that as my overall purchase was over the 25pt minimum that I might be able to - but it was a no go).

The reason I was told that I couldn't add on such a small amount was because it would still be a seperate contract and as Disney were covering the admin fees then it wasn't a big enough contract to be worth their while. I totally understood and accepted this, but now I just wondered whether under these new charges perhaps I could do the small add on?? - especially if the charges are now my own to pay?

Thanks for any info:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

That's a interesting idea. Their point reallocations last year now has many members coming up short on their required points for their favorite vacation times. Maybe they will allow smaller add-ons in the future.

Hi Bill:thumbsup2 Yes I am one of those that could really do with just 7-8 points to get exactly what I want on a regular basis, so buying say 10 -15 extra points would be really great for me.:)

Hopefully this might change with these new fees - that would at least be something positive to come from their introduction - for me at least!!:thumbsup2
