DVC AP Renewal Policy?

I want to get this straight. I have an AP that expires in September. We were not going to renew but with the extension it would be worthwhile. Our next trip is not until May. If I order a renewal in September they send me a voucher, then when I go in May I pick up the actual pass. If the extension is not still going in May then I won't get the extra 3 months? Is this correct?
We probably would go again in the fall or Christmas next year so I'm trying to figure out the best plan. Help!!:confused3

You should see out at Disneyland. I bought an AP at the ticket window, they don't give you the actual pass. You take the ticket they give you and then right inside the entrance is a place where you get in line to get your picture taken! The pass is on a plastic card with your picture. No finger scan, they scan the pass like a grocery store and your picture comes up on their screen and they let you pass.

Not sure if you have to get a picture each year, I didn't renew.

No you don't have to get a new picture each year. We didn't renew as we didn't have a trip scheduled for at least another 4 months after ours expired. But when we went back later that year, they used the same picture we already had.

My understanding was that you had to renew within 30 days before or after your AP renewal date to get the 15 months. You always have to go to GS to get your new pass so that's not a new inconvenience. You can only get the voucher through the mail. I could re-start my complaints about the fact that my paper annual pass is far less substantial than the actual cards the people who travel with me get.

This is the article I read this morning that mentioned that the 15 month extension was good only for passes with a Sept 1 or later expiration date. Ours expire mid August and I thought that the renewal would not work for us. Hence the two phone calls. They insisted that I should be all right since we will be renewing our passes after the August 2 start date of the promotion and within the 30 days prior to or 30 days after our current passes expire. I'm thankful that we already had a trip planned for the time period that our passes expire.

For those who have a later expiration, I would keep my eyes open for more details direct from Disney. I have seen nothing official posted by Disney yet on the passholder's site.

Good luck to all out there.

I will post when we get back if I get any more details or if I have any trouble renewing ours with the extension while at the World.

Alot of that article does not match up with what has been posted. Others posted 30 days before or after your expiration date.

The promotion began Aug. 2 (the same day Disney raised annual-pass prices) and applies to passes that expire Sept. 1 or later. To get the extra three months, a passholder must be within his or her customary renewal window, 60 days or less from the expiration date. They must renew no later than the expiration date.

Really -- it has to be done at Guest Services? That's disappointing.

But on the good side, we'll be there within 30 days of our renewal, so it won't be a problem for us.

But you'd think you'd be able to do it through the AP site, at a minimum!

Wow. It surprises me how backwards Disney can be some times.

Even at messed up ol' Six Flags, you only go to the park to get your pass once. Thereafter, it's strictly a mail-in affair if you want it to be (you always have the option of going to the park, of course).

But for WDW, you have to be physically present to get a renewed AP. Amazing!

You have always had to go to GS in order to get your AP in hand. Disney has never sent out either a new or renewed AP. In order to get it, you have to show ID...plain and simple. Just way too much room for abuse. You have to go right past GS in order to enter the park...what's the big deal with stopping for 10 mins?
It has always been this way, the vast majority are used to it being this way. Personally, just because Six Flags does something, doesn't mean it's the best way to do something. No comparison at all.

Aha! That's exactly how Six Flags does it (and they do reuse your picture every year).

Very interesting. So Disney has a special process for WDW that they don't use at Disneyland. Must have something to do with the proportion of locals versus tourists.
