Trying to figure this out and not sure where to post.

I want to get an AP at the DVC rate, primarily so I can get DDE card which will save us a ton on meals plus may get us a cheaper room rate for our 2 non DVC nights.

So do I have to get my AP on the DVC website? Is that the only place? When I get the pass can I then call and get the DDE or does the AP need to be activated? (which I wasnt planning on doing until we get to DW in Dec) If I have to activate it sooner than I want, how close to the travel date can it be before I order the DDE?

thanks!

Don't know about getting the DVC discount as we haven't bought DVC discounted passes yet....we just bought in.

You do have to have an activated AP to get the AP discount on the DDE....I had to read her the numbers off the back of my pass. That said, it usually takes 3-4 weeks to get it in the mail. BUT, if you are going sooner than that, they will leave a temporary card and letter at Guest Relations at Epcot, as early as the next day ::yes:: (or next business day...can't remember which).

Good luck! Have fun!

Do you really have to have an activated AP? I seem to remember many posts from several months ago where people were able to use a voucher. What's the story here?

You do NOT have to have an activated AP to sign up for and get the discounted DDE card - an AP Voucher number is acceptable for DDE signup. If you want to wait until you activate your AP, just call DDE as soon as you activate your AP and they will send a temporary DDE card over to Epcot Guest Relations within hours for you to pick up and start using immediately.

Last week i stopped in at quest services at DTD to ask if they accepted the dvc discount and disney awards card - yes to both. I purchased my Dinning card in the spring, it took about two months to arrive but they emailed a confirmation letter within 24 hours of purchase I was able to use the letter at wdw for our april trip and our cards were waiting for us when we arrived back home. What a great investment, have saved a quite a bit of money.

Just did this yesterday. I bought the AP's by calling member services, so no, you don't have to do it online. I used my points from my Disney Visa as well, so that helped. When I got the vouchers in the mail, I called DDE, read them the numbers on the back of the voucher, and they processed it. The only thing different than what I've seen elsewhere is that they told me to wait for the card, and if I didn't have it 2 or 3 days before the trip, to call, and they'd put a temp. card for me at GS at Epcot. Maybe because they thought I might get it in time? Anyway, they didn't email me anything, but I'm betting they would if asked.

Also, we arrive on a Friday, and she did say to be careful if you need temp. cards - they need to be requested no later than 3:30 on Friday, and they are closed on the weekends, so I'm hoping I just get mine - I'll have enough to remember that week! They are valid until the end of the month following the anniversary of your order, so for me, good until the end of next September.

So basically if I call for a DDE card in the beginning of January (assuming the discount will still be in effect at the time) I will either get my card before we arrive, get an email, or be able to pick up a temp card at Epcot Guest Services? And then my card will be active until the end of January of the following year (2007) ?

Wow....great deal....even if we only go a couple of places this trip we will still have the dining discount in Jan. 2007- when we'll be going with a larger group and will probably have more meals out.

Thanks for the info.

As I understand it, emailing is no longer an option. Your only option if you dont' get the card is to pick it up at Epcot Guest Services.

When I called, I was told their current turn-around time is about 3 weeks. Earlier this year it was considerably longer, but apparently they've caught up with the orders.

Actually, if I understood correctly, it would be good until the end of February that year. She said it's until the end of the month following the one you order in plus a year. So since I ordered in Auguet 2005, mine will be good until the end of September 2006. I checked this because I wanted to order early enough to get the card before the trip, but also wanted it to be good through the entire duration of our APs. So it works out nicely that they give you a little extra time. I would still verify when you order, though, especially if the end of the term is important to you, just to make sure.
